Now I am confused. Did you pick this dog up?

Yes, BSGirl, that's correct. Deputy Dog was not my dog, but a rescue dog.

<At 3AM on the 22nd, my hero came along! He scooped me up, covered me with a blanket and took me to a warm place. He contacted a member of the St. Mary’s Animal Welfare League and got me into a safe home. The lady helped to dry me off and warm me. I appreciated their help and love, but had already suffered so much. I looked her in the eye and gave her one little wag of my tail.>

He was found by a young guy who brought him to me for help. I do animal rescue. This was not one of my own animals. I just loved him as if he were. He died in my arms on the way to the vet.

That's correct. That's when the vet told me about the oath that they all sign and the "public service" they provide in cases like this.

Okayl. Re-read the first post. I don't know if I would approach an injured animal, but I know I would try and if I couldn't get to it, I would call animal control. What is the # of the vet that would accept these animals. I assume they are open all night?

Thank you BS Gal, that's all I'm asking that people do their best. Unforutunately, no we don't have a 24 hour vet here in St. Mary's. ;-( That's a whole other can of worms. If it's after hours, you'd definitely have to try getting help from animal control I included the numbers for Animal Control in one of my posts previously, but I'll include them again so hopefully even more people will have them. Let me include them here again though. From 10-4 call 301-475-8018, press 6 and then 2 for animal control. After hours, call 301-475-8016. Writing them down and putting in your wallet would be a great idea. Unfortunately Animal Control has very little manpower and it's a very big county. If an animal is lieing in the road where he risks being hit again, it's a touchy subject. You don't want to risk being injured or you'll be no help to the animal either. So it would be tricky as to whether you should attempt to rescue them, and you would have to use your best judgement on. In Deputy Dog's situation, he had no fight left in him...he was frozen stiff with frost covering every inch of his little body.

What I have always done, was gone to the nearest vet for help with no problem. Again, as we've seen that can be a controversial subject. ;-) And apparantly each vet will set their own procedure based on the circumstances.

Thanks, BS Gal. Let's hope you don't, but it never hurts to be prepared. In the case of Deputy Dog it definitely could have helped if he'd been found earlier. ;-(

I thought she meant there were "all kinds" of vets "all over" Callaway.... :whack:

LOL, sorry, Mike. It's been a long day. I wasn't very clear. Yes, All Kinds Veterinary Hospital is in Callaway located behind the car wash. It's a husband and wife team, Dr. Autumn & Adam Terry. They were both so compassionate when I was balling my eyes out over poor Deputy Dog. I deal with a lot of death in rescue, but it's the ones like this that could have been prevented that really hurts.

Here is a funny story I can share. Hubby was heading down 235 one day, north, and it was pouring rain and here was this "hound" dog in the middle of the road, weighed over 75 lbs. So hubby feels bad for it and coaxes it into the truck and brings him home . Dumbest dog I ever met. We called him Jethro. Anyway. the dog woiuld put his 25 pound foot on your leg and then pee on the floor. After advertising to try to find an ownner, Mike at Mike's Bike's took him and we had to give him $50 and a 50 lb dog food bag....Awww, I'm not a bad person.

Lol, that's bad when you have to pay someone to take them. I've had some rescue cases where I thought I might have to go that route. ;-) That was great that your family took Jethro in----sounds like a suiting name for him too. :lmao:

So if we find a dog at say...3 am..and take it to Waldorf or Annapolis emergency they won't charge us either??

Appyday,

I think this has been hashed out enough. Do as you feel compelled to do. I will not respond to anymore of your posts as we are obviously never going to see eye-to-eye on this.

Have a nice life.

I need to also mention, Kip, the Amazing Wonder Dog, that we took in from an older couple that could not handle her. She was an Austrailen Sheep Dog that we loved. Her downfall was trying to herd everyone into the yard. After he second nip on a jogger, we had to change her name and send her to Calvert County. Best dog we ever had......She did all the frisbee tricks.

One time, I found a giant turtle in the middle of the road. He was spinning 'round and 'round on his back. I tried to turn him over with my hand and he bit my arm. I tried to turn him over with my foot and he scratched the #### out of my leg. So I let him spin. :bigwhoop:
