when I was moving they had a great deal for new customers....I can't remember exactly but it was something like 30$ off a month, free hd for a year, free reveiver and free starz and hbo for 6 months. I called up and said I wanted all of that or i was canceling because I was moving. The best they could do was 15$ off a month and free starz/hbo for 6 months. So I cancelled my service and when we moved just signed up under the hubby's name. Got all that original stuff..and when his two years are up we'll probably cancel and put it back under my name to get whatever awesome deals they have for new customers then. :coffee:

Remember way back when the great phone wars were going on? MCI, Sprint, AT&T were all cut throat for long distance service? I used to switch my long distance carrier every 6 months or so and never paid more than a couple bucks a month in long distance calls. Sing up with Sprint for 6 months at $6.99 for unlimited LD for 6 months. Then get a call from MCI who offered 6 months free so switch again. 6 months later AT&T would call and offer it for $5 a month.

Business is business, they do everything they can do to wring another dime out of you and absent competition they screw you when they can. I feel no remorse at all playing their game and getting the most service for the least expense. More than likely they got theirs from me before the situation turned and I as the consumer gained the upper hand. How many crazy ass long distance bills did you pay way back when you had no choice?

I never bothered to try any of these 'tricks'. We've been with DTV for over 11 yrs now. We did get $10.00 off the bill for 6 months for being a 10 year customer.

Just wish I could lose the land line phone - it's the only reason I have one still.

You do not need a land line to have direct tv. I have had it for 3 years and I dont have a land line. the only limit without a land line is you can't order PPV with your remote, you have to do it online or via phone.

Kernel panic: Aiee.......
We were hooked up to a faux line and ordered movies for free for a few months. I hear this happens a lot, especially when a 3rd party contractor is doing the DTV installation. They don't care that you are getting movies for free.
You may be in for a shock if/when you cancel service and DirecTV ask for their receivers back. The PPV purchaces are stored on the access card and they scan them when they get them. You will be billed for those PPV purchaces on your final bill.

After a few minutes she said "I can't do much financially other than take $5 a month off for 3 months, but I can transfer you to the #$%@#$% <---(couldn't understand her) department.

#$%@#$% = Big Penis :lmao:

I think I may give this a try.

No biggie. I don't have plans to cancel ever, but if I do, it's my purchase and I'd own up to it.

Save the Tatas!!!
Does your DVR have to be connected to the landline to use the smartphone ap to set it?

This is from the DirecTV website.

Q. Do I need a phone line or Ethernet cable plugged in to schedule recordings?
A. Recording requests are sent via satellite, so no phone line or Ethernet cable is required.

And when I call Comcast and say I'm thinking about chaning to Direct TV, they say "okay......"

They might say ok now but if you switch, they will call you almost daily for a month begging you to come back and offer deals/specials to get you back. They did that with us when we switched to DTV last September. Even after I had returned the boxes to them, they were still trying to get me to come back.
