Direct TV

So I got a mailer from Metrocast telling me how wonderful they are and how they will save me $500 if I switch from Direct TV.

I sincerely doubt I will, actually I am pretty sure I won't switch but Direct TV doesn't know that.

So I am going to call and cancel Direct TV.......kinda......and when they put me on to the "loss prevention" department who tries to talk you into staying, I am going to extort a discount or a couple months free out of them.

I do not feel dirty about this at all because they scam customers all the time with their "deals" and packages and blah blah.

Anyone have any good stories about how much you got them to give up to keep you as a customer? I need a baseline to set as a goal.
I just called and got $10 per month off for HD service.
No free movie channel's.

I decided I was spending entirely too much for DishNet and using it entirely too little, so I canceled the service altogether. Didn't switch to anything else. Put a couple of the saved $ to NetFlix and a new HDTV. Put up a small antenna and I get basic broadcast for free. Everything else I want to watch I get online for free.

No, not a cheap miserly bastage, just could not see spending all that money when I didn't take advantage of any of it.

Would you like a free antenna?

If you actually leave DirecTV and decide to come back, let me know. Use me as a referral. :lmao:

We'll be picking DTV back up again, as the house that's 1/4 of a mile down the road doesn't have CABLE!!

I'm ok with Direct TV, have had it in the past.. but what the hell am I going do without Cable INTERET!??

Satellite internet is NOT the answer.. May have to go with Verizon's Hot Spot

Question for you Dish people...who do you get your internet from?

I was looking at DishTV's website, and they only offer Dial Up and Sprint. Neither of which I want to use.

And how much hardware do you need in your house to plug the lights, fan, blinds and tv into to control it with said software??

We have two touch pads - one at the front door and another in the living room. We also have a separate box upstairs that controls the entire house. It's very convenient for those times when something is left on downstairs. However, I don't think you need any of the touch pads if all you want to do is control things with a remote or computer. The "system" is set up through software.

If you're interested, I can have hubby get you more information.

How is your reception down here?
Varies from excellent to poor, depending on weather conditions. I only have a very small antenna which gets me 4 channels from the Eastern Shore. I'm sure I could do alot better if I put up a full long distance antenna, but I'm choosing not to do that right now.

When I had Dish, I used (still use) Verizon DSL.

Satellite is worthless for internet, too expensive and not much better than dial up to be worth it.

I'm thinking a wireless Hot Spot from Verizon for a wireless Router, or tetherable phones for the two of us so we can both get on the internet with our laptops.

Hm so I might be stuck staying with Metrocast, not that I have bad service. But the price is something to cry about.
