District Court

So Miggy has been summoned for jury duty! Not just any jury, but the darn district court in Greenbelt. How's the parking? Any advice or input? "They" say they will pay for my "lodging" since I live more than 50 miles away, but I don't think Greenbelt is an area I want to stay. Experiences? Is it too late to escape? Any doctor willing to write me a note?

It's the U.S. District Court.

I grew up in Greenbelt. The area where the court is located is not a bad area. You drive farther to work, why can't you commute daily? But, there's a hotel within walking distance.

I thought I could but they are encouraging me to stay, so I just wanted some input.

I've always been excused from jury duty in the past due to my close relationship with law enforcement officers and having a godfather who is a judge. But according to my boss, they changed the rules about that last June and it is no longer an exempt reason.

Don't think those ever were valid reasons. You will just get to the voir dire and probably be stricken when that question comes up. I never get far because of my job.

I hope so. Not that I would mind doing my civic duty, but I don't want to miss a month plus of work.

But think of the stories you could come back and tell to all of us forumites. AND, if it's a really good case, you could sell your book rights and get a movie deal, and let the forumites have the leading rolls! Oh, the possibilities are endless.................

Hubby just got off of a month 'on call'. He never had to report. Calling in every Monday evening to get status was the biggest hassle.:jameo:

Good luck.

There is a hilton garden inn and a holiday inn in a shopping center near by. Not a horrible area, but not a great area either.

Just show up in a Victorian era dress and tell them that your name isn't Miggy, it's Erzsébet and that you prefer to be called "Countess Báthory." If that doesn't get you exempted due to mental instability, ask me about "Plan B." :yay:

spelling is over rated.

Jurry duty is not hard to get out of. Just tell them that you get harassed by the police a lot and that you don't trust cops. There are tons of excuses you can use to get out of Jurry duty.

A typical Jurry is just made up of 12 people that were to dumb to figure out a way to get out of it.

Tell them this:

My name is A***** and I am a conservative Christian gun owner from rural Georgia. Al Sharpton is an idiot and Imus got screwed. You will be dismissed right away.

Why was calling once a week such a hassle?

yep just tell them that you are in love with a cop and that you don't believe that any cop could ever be in the wrong. They will toss you off.
