DO NOT go to Walmart for an oil change!

I've had Wal-Mart "lose" something of mine after an oil change. They reviewed the security cameras and admitted fault - I scored a brand new replacement. They ALWAYS forget to reset my oil light. Jiffy Lube is much easier to deal with and they've never jacked anything up.

I can think of half a dozen small business garages I'd frequent before I'd take my vehicle to the mouthbreathers at Walmart or Jiffy Lube. And I do.

There are horror stories at every change and go place, not just Wal Mart. Happened to my son at a Midas in York Pa. It was towed back to Midas after smoke everywhere. When he called me, I told him to call Honda dealership to have it towed there. I showed up at the dealership to get the bad news, engine blown (3K+), no oil, service manager suggested I talk to his contract tow person. Spoke to them and they said when they went to tow it from Midas, employees were putting oil in the engine....

Nothing I could do that day, stopped by Midas in Waldorf, explained what happened, manager there (female) got on the phone, taked to corporate, and everything was paid for. She did a wonderful job, a real advocate for me. I was lucky.

Bottom line, it's fine to get your oil changed wherever you want. BUT, open the hood and check the dipstick BEFORE you leave.

WDF. So worth the wait.
Totally not relevant, but it just freaks me out thinking I can get new tires and a lube job at the same place I buy my tampons and frozen turkey.

Carry on with the matter at hand.

I just wanted to warn everyone around here, if you are thinking about going to Walmart for an oil change, change your mind! I took my mini-van there (California Walmart) to get an oil change. The next time I drove it, I noticed there was something seriously wrong with the motor. I decided to take it to a friend who is a mechanic, who discovered there was no oil in my engine! I took my vehicle to Walmart because, as advertised, they have great deals on oil changes and I am a single mother with two kids, so great deals are always great for me. Now I am stuck without a vehicle, and a van that is going to cost me $5,000 for a replacement motor. When I contacted Walmart, they told me they would take care of me and that they were really sorry and everything. In order for them to do that I had to file a claim through their insurance company. The claims adjuster told me it would take 5-7 days to retrieve the surveilance videos from Walmart. So the next day I got a phone call from him stating that all of the procedures were properly followed by the employee that changed my oil, and that they weren't going to be able to do anything for me. So I began getting a bit defensive, thinking how in the world can they deny me within such a short period of time (it hadn't been 24 hours yet), and on top of that, the employees in the store basically admitted fault. Anyway, the claims adjuster said "All I can tell you is CLAIM DENIED" and HE HUNG THE PHONE UP!

Long story short, I went to Walmart, paid for an oil change, they didn't put any oil back in my car, then my motor blew up! I get a phone call from the insurance claims adjuster, and all he could tell me was "claim denied" before he hung up on me. I am not trying to get pitty, but I am a single mother of two with a serious heart condition that has led me to not be able to work, I have a very limited income, and now I have no vehicle to transport my kids in, much less $5,000 to spend on a replacement motor all because Walmart forgot to put oil back in my van when they changed it. So just a warning - DO NOT take your vehicle into Walmart's mechanic shop.

First you need to back to walmart and see what they will do. Or you could sue them in small claims court in the county.

My husband asked me to take his car to Wal-Mart for an oil change, so as a good wife i did so. I dropped the car ff and after about an hour of wondering around I went back to see if the car was done yet. They informed me that they could not change the oil because the car had an aftermarket oil plug. So i left and went across the street to the tire place to see if they would do it they said yes, however they would not guarentee anything, i told them no I will go elsewhere. So I called my father and he said to bring the car down and he would do it for me. I got all the way to Newburg and my fathers friend noticed something black all over the fromt of the car, ao we popped the hood and Wal-Maet had forgottten to put the cap back on the oil and all of the oil was spit out of the car!! So I called wal-mart and the manager said thet she could either send someone out in 2 hours with oil & to clean the car or I could put oil in it and they would reinburse me. Luckilly I had oil in the car. I have not been back since!

Had a problem with them in my SUV - they pulled the oil filter off then said it was draining oil (duh thats what happens when you take the filter off :smack:) and refused to change the oil because I drive a "busted ass piece of ####" and George the Wal-Mart Auto Service Manager drives a Cadillac.

I had no choice but to change it in the parking lot because the dumbasses drained all the oil out of my car. So they called the police. Long story short, police said I had the right to change my oil there because it could not be driven home with no oil in the engine.
