Not According to Forestal.

FTA: ' For the first 37 weeks of 2007, the three network newscasts devoted a total of 1,659 minutes to the war in Iraq, said the Pew Research Center for the People and the Press. In the subsequent 12 weeks, just 197 minutes.

"It's like ignoring D-Day," said Don Surber of the Charleston (WVa) Daily Mail. Success in Iraq is being downplayed because it is embarrassing to most journalists and Democrats, and disappointing to some. Does Hillary Clinton want a ticker tape parade for Gen. Petraeus, who she, in effect, called a liar last September? Does Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid want to be reminded he declared the war lost last April?'

I don't think that's really accurate. The news stations run on money, so as the war drags on, it becomes stale news and therefore doesn't generate viewers. It's all about money.

Success is stale news only to those who've opposed the war. If the war had dragged on without success, it would still be headlines.

Michael Yon and others have tremendous success reporting the news, good with the bad.

After all the years of coverage, I guess we magically reached that moment half way through 2007 when it started getting better...

This is very true....

I'll bet Fox News still has more war coverage than any other network though.....

I dont agree that the news is about money. Its about the liberal policies of its editors and producers.

If it were about money the NY Times would stop being liberal and print some conservative articles. perhaps now they have realised they cant continue to pizz off half the reading public and expect to survive. Perhaps that is why they recently hired Bill Kristol.

Too bad CNN and CBS cant figure that out. I suppose if they get hungry enough they will, but at this point it isnt money its their liberal agenda that is fueling the news engine and the war dosnt align with their agenda when we are winning.

As for the basic question asked Do we deserve our military? Well about half the country does, The other half would just as soon be in Russia or China or the Middle east as they certainly dont love America. I believe their views would change drastically if they were forced to live in those other countries, but while they are here they will continue to Whine about the freedoms in this country. They enjoy those freedoms, but they want others (our military ) to pay for them. And they want it on the cheap.

What a pathetic caricature of the sanctimonious Conservative.

"Only my viewpoint is American. Only my party loves it's country. Only my side knows what's best for America. Everyone else is a communist/socialist/terrorist. Everyone else is wrong and only I am right."

It might be funny if you were joking around...but you're completely serious. :ohwell:

meh, both are about as useless as all get out.

edit: both exist to make money.

I would hope news media would want to make money for their investors. But print media is dying a slow death, some would say because of modern (almost said new) media, other would say because of the liberal slant. For those that slam Fox, why are they killing CNN? Better looking news babes?

And all the crying about a conservative columnist being hired by the NYT is indicative of a sanctimonious Socialist saying "Only my viewpoint is American. Only my party loves it's country. Only my side knows what's best for America. Everyone else is a neocon/nazi/Hitler. Everyone else is wrong and only I am right?"

The sword cuts both ways. Thank heavens for an open society where everyone can speak (no right to be heard however). I think folks have a tendency to watch or listen to outlets that affirm the beliefs they already hold dear.
