Do you walk your dog or just put them out?

have you checked into snake proofing her? I have heard a few places will offer this up... they secure the snake so it cant bite... the let the dog get near it..and not sure what they do... but the dog learns to ignore the snakes.

now thats not to say you run across a cottonmouth..and she checks that out.

I've never even heard of it, but I'll definitely check into it, thanks.

I'm hoping she's gets out of the curious puppy stage and leaves things alone, fire ants are nasty enough, but snakes, they scare me.

We live in a rural area and have a fully fenced yard. That being said, our little dude doesn't actually "go" outside unless I come with him. He'll putter around the yard as long as he can see me on the back deck. If I walk inside and shut the door, here he comes!

We also take him on leashed walks from home, or on trails.

Now when she was younger, we lived in a more secluded spot and had ponds on the property, she would get a daily walk without the leash around the ponds. She used to love chasing the ducks, geese and occasional groundhound and of course she in turn would be chased by said animals. LOL

I read this three time and couldn't figure out why you had greyhounds at your pond. Then I thought it said ground hogs, then I was really

What's a groundhound?

Not judging because one's probably not better than the other as far as the dog is concerned. That Peke story made me wonder, though.

I always walk Apollo and he's never been on a chain outside unless I was working in the yard or right there with him. A lot of people in my 'hood walk their dogs as well; only a few have the pooch chained up outside or fenced in. The people next door to me always have their dogs out on a chain - I mean ALWAYS - but the dogs don't seem to mind.

So just curious how many walk their dog and how many send them out alone in the yard?
We have to go for a walk every evening so she can sniff the neighborhood, she acts like she's checking her messages.

The grandpup always gets walked on a leash. Our yard isn't fenced (she was just supposed to be with us for a short time). And, we have neighbors who can't seem to comprehend that they need to keep their aggressive dogs contained, so we've never tried without the leash. I think she would stay right with us though.

My big dog has taken to now trying to pee on the little dog when I'm walking them. I think he's trying to give him a message also.

Used to walk both dogs. Good times, snow or what ever. Now that it's just Yoda I let him out in the back to go sniff all the bushes and do his business in the AM. Go out in front with him a couple times after I get home. No leash and I call him back if anyone comes walking down the street so they don't think he might be a problem. He used to have a tendancy to run off, but he has outgrown that. Always comes back now when called. Turning into a darn good dog. Son will take him on the leash to Solomons sometimes. Chick magnet.

Only time my dogs are on a leash is when they go to the vet. They have a 4K compound to rip and race in.
Amazing how many folks let their dogs loose late at night, not a good idea.:jameo:

I love this! We live in base housing so new people are always moving into the neighborhood and almost everyone has dogs. The amount of ground-sniffing on our walks is out of control.

The dogs just stay out. They have a football-sized fenced-in yard to run around in. They get fed twice a day, and watered, bathed, etc., as often as necessary.

They also have a fan, along with a mister, to ease their absolute, do-nothingless lives. Along with their occasional trips to the beach....

And, horror of horrors, they are let into A/C space in the laundry room at night and during T-storms.

The horror! The horror!

They are dogs.

They want our annual sweat fest to end as much as their humans do.

Then they live the high-life.

On the leash for walks, but a chain to do business. Dogs are never left outside longer than to do their business. They are bona fide spoiled sofadogs.

I hear that. My dog goes out, does her business, then comes back into the "bubble" where she gets all the exercise she needs in the pool. Besides, it's just to hot to leave her out for more than she needs.

She likes it better when people swim with her, especially my daughter.

she i bet likes having someone who swims laps with her doesn't she lol..or get your daughter to toss her toy and pretend she is going to get it to make the dog get to it before she does lol...that is how bruno is with her really badly messed up ball due to the lawn service not being careful and cutting 2 of them up with the weedwacker and lawnmower.

In My Opinion
We have a Chihuahua, we live in the woods, the woods are home to Owls (had babies this year), Hawks, and Fox. Fox also had babies this year.
A leash is a fair idea for a dog the size of a rabbit.

Which one do you hope to catch?? An Owl, a Hawk, or a Fox??

Tug on the leash now and then, they tend to strike at bait that is moving erratically..
