Has anyone mentioned the fact the these unions [outside of marriage of one man and one woman] would further affect our social security problem, our health insurance rates and other markets? People who are not not able to share benefits would be able to get in on the "family" plan.

What affect would that have on the economy?

How much would it cost to re-write and re-publish the tax code?

Just a thought... :coffee:

Right. The rules (the Constitution) don't talk about marriage. So why is the government involved?

They saw an opportunity to charge $10 for a marriage liscense while paying somebody $20 to issue it. According to gubberment math, that's $10 profit.

Just checked the MD Constitution...marriage isn't in there either. The government math theory sounds plausible though

So then there is no legal authority or precedent to ban the marrage of two people, no matter the sex of the individuals.

In Maryland there is a statute, created in 1973, that defines marriage as between a man and a woman. This is the battle going on in Maryland Court. To have this statuate declared unconstitutional.

So I guess if my husband cheated on me with another man, it wouldn't be adultrey... Of course, Sodomy, is still a felony crime as well.

In Maryland, it is illegal to sell condoms from vending machines with one exception—prophylactics may be dispensed from a vending machine only "in places where alcoholic beverages are sold for consumption on the premises."

I noticed that when I was on vactaion that several convenience stores we stopped at had condom machines in the bathroms. I thought it was odd. While I already teach my children (9 and 11) about condoms etc. I really didn't like them staring them in the face while we made a pee pee stop.
