if there was a Fiat dealership on Great Mills Road around 1979?
Yes! Mac's New & Used, owned and operated by Walt Powell. It's where I bought my 1970 Fiat 124, which, of course, has long ago kissed Old Rose. The salesman's name was Nerdly Sturnwyck III.

Nerdly Sturnwyck? I think you're making that up.

Thread hijack . . . . . .

I remember when men were men and women were women/ladies. I remember when we gave our teacher our milk money in the morning after arrival and in return got a red round plastic chip, (that was used for playing BINGO), to give the cafeteria lady for milk at lunch. I remember when the bad guys were arrested, tried, and put away for a long time. I remember when people enjoyed the consequence of their actions by their peers ostracizing them and condemning those actions, and using them as lessons learned as a teaching aide when raising their children. I remember when being a patriotic American was normal, and not the exception. I remember when . . . . . . . .

I, too, remember like that.

As earlier stated it was Mac's Fiat and it was located where Caliber Collison is now. I bought a new 1974 Fiat 124 Sport Coupe from them. I spent as much money keeping it on the road as what it cost brand new. I unloaded it in '80 for a Subaru that I bought in Waldorf.

I bought a Fiat Strada from them in 1979. A drunk woman t-boned me and totaled it before I even made a first payment. Bought another Strada and ran it until it died of natural causes.

That sucks! My daughter's boyfriend bought a new Camaro 2 years ago in Virginia. He was on the way home from the dealership with it when a woman hit him while he was in the traffic circle by Chaptico Market. She was on the phone (he thinks on drugs, too) in a commercial vehicle. She pleaded with him not to call the cops, which if course he did.

Oh God, that's much worse than my wreck.

I was coming down the hill on the opposite side Lord Calvert Bowling Alley. I could see a car coming up the road next to the bowling alley and watched her cross the road to the center. Even said to myself surely she's going to stop. Nope, plowed right through just as I passed. I spun out right in front of the bar that used to be there and she continued into the bar parking lot like not a damn thing just happened. I walked into the bar and asked if anyone had just seen a woman come through. Sure enough she was sitting there tossing back a double.

The bartender called the police but she couldn't be charged with drunk driving because they didn't know if she had been drinking prior to entering the bar and drinking. Her family came to pick her up and told me she was plastered when she left.

She then proceeded to ask me if I needed a ride home. I swear that's the very first time I used the "f" word.

The accident happened while he was in the circle and she just plowed right into him coming from the market side. Caved in the passenger door (where his mom was sitting, jacked her arm up pretty good, but no permanent damage to her, thankfully), ripped off the mirror, messed up the fenders. There was no way to prove the other driver was on the phone and she tried to pass it off on faulty brakes. We did find out later that she had already wrecked one of their vans before and she failed a drug test the company made her take the next day. Didn't have too much trouble getting the company's insurance to pay for the damages. Sucked cause it was his first new car, but he still has it.
