Dog Chases Cats ........ URGH !

For now he isn't separated when he can be supervised and corrected. I have to say he IS getting better. I think there's hope for him. I didn't buy the muzzle by the way.

It's a common problem.

a couple of good smacks from my oldest cat did the trick with my dog. He knows which ones he can mess with, doubt my dog would ever bite them, he just wants to play. My little kitty will play with him, he'll lie on the floor and the dog will push him around with his nose, it's kind of funny to watch.

I agree, alot depends on the cat. My pup is terrorized by my mom's cat and hides in her house when we are there. On the other hand, she will chase the cat at our friends house and leave the two at another alone....

That tells me, it's up to the cat.

For a correction to change behavior, it must change the behavior within three to five times of using that technique. Am Bulldogs can be very resistant to physical corrections. The next time he goes for a cat, grab him by his collar, and march him to another room. Say "time out" calmly when you close the door. Wait fifteen seconds (that's all!) then allow him to come out. If he resumes cat chasing, straight back to time out. You are teaching him his behavior will get him removed from the pack.

Also practice saying his name and getting him to focus on you. If he looks at you, lots of praise. You can actually get him to default into looking at you when he sees the kitty. (Look Mom, a cat! What do you want me to do?)

Using physical corrections may teach him cats make bad things happen, creating an even more aggressive response.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about these techniques. I have used these on dogs that have killed animals, with great success.
