dog Training

My Border Collie is [or was anyway, it's been a long time since she visited] a therapy dog. My daughter was working with a group in Charles County called [I think] Pets on Wheels. They visit nursing homes and hospitals in the Southern Maryland area. Pets on Wheels did the certification and issued the ID badges. They had certain criteria that had to be followed as far as bathing and things, but it was a good experience and the people were very nice. It's a wonderful thing to do.

Pets on Wheels is a wonderful organization!! All of my dogs are therapy dogs with POW (except my 4 month old because he isn't old enough yet). The Southern Maryland group encompasses Charles and St. Mary's Counties. It isn't just for dogs either!

The director does a simple temperment test (ie pulls on ears, tails, watches reaction to strangers, wheelchairs, etc.)

PM me if you are interested in volunteering. I will send you the contact info.

the lady who is training my dog uses a pinch collar and it doesn't hurt them. you might need to ask her what she would use on a 4lb pom (I bet nothing) but since my dog is 20lbs already and only 3 months old she decided before my st bernard got out of hand she would start now as shes going to be a very big dog and we need to correct some of her bad behavior she has right now so it doesn't get worse.

Thank you, but they require a choke and on a 4lb pom I think that is just over kill.

I'm pretty sure that you won't HAVE to use the choke on your dog in their classes. The CGC calls for either a flat or choke collar for the test. Give them a call and ask. The worst that will happen is that they say they require it and you say no thanks.
