But just because none of us, or any of the people we know (as far as we know) has had this happen, doesn't mean it doesn't happen. The internet has been rife with civil asset seizure horror stories for years. The most well-known guy who talks about it is that lawyer dude out of Michigan - can't remember his name right off the bat, but he's talked several times over the years about it.

Okay, so we have established that cops spend their days accosting innocent citizens and stealing their money. We can't even leave our homes without the cops mugging us. The internet says so. So the obvious answer to the problem is ACAB and need to be defunded, shut down, just like Democrats said.

Then why didn't you guys vote for Kamala? She wants to shut down policing, and it seems to be very important to you. So why would you vote for the pro-LE guy instead of the woman who wanted to get these thugs off your back?

It can't possibly be that this happens rarely, it clearly happens every single second of every day - it's on the internet. I have no idea why you all who carry large sums of cash haven't had it stolen by cops. It doesn't make any sense at all why they'd go after some and not others, especially since they can just take whatever they want, put it in their pocket, and there's nothing you can do about it.

What did you guys do that deterred the cops from stealing your money? Maybe that's what everyone needs to do.

Every day, FAA's Air Traffic Organization (ATO) provides service to more than 45,000 flights and 2.9 million airline passengers

So its pretty easy to understand that this could literally happen every single day and no happen to one of the four or five people on here who travel with large sums. Odds are literally millions to five against.

Why is this your go-to whenever people show you eyou are wrong? Some DEA agents did this just like some cops are not good cops. Nobody here said anything about acab or that we need to shut down the cops or the DEA. Just the bad ones. Doing bad s***.

You guys are acting like these aren't rare occurrences - that you can't go anywhere without some cop jumping on you and stealing your money. No really, go back and read from the beginning. Hell, I'm surprised you all ever leave your house since cops are just laying in wait for you.

You're also acting like there's no possible reason why cops would confiscate large sums of money other than they like to steal.

AND you're acting like drug runners and human traffickers don't carry large sums of cash, only legit people do and that's why you all are constantly being harangued by cops and having your money stolen. Because you are, right? Isn't that what we're talking about? Regular innocent citizens constantly having their property stolen by thuggish police? For no reason at all besides they like to steal and can get away with it?

So don't accuse me of speaking in absolutes or anecdotes when you all are doing it too.

If it's a fact that cops can legally shake you down and steal your money for no reason at all (which is what has been specifically stated), it would literally be happening ALL THE TIME. Like every single day. They'd do nothing except that, because why wouldn't they? But clearly this is a rare occurrence or every one of you who carry cash would have had it confiscated.

I think a more thoughtful approach would be, "Gee, I've carried large sums of money through the airport many times and no DEA agents have ever taken it from me. I wonder why they jumped on the people in this story?" That's where I was coming from - why them? - until you all raked my ass insisting that it happens to everyone all the time, even though it's never happened to any of you.

I had that happen to me flying from Lincoln to BWI. My flight got rescheduled because of weather, so I rebooked for like the next day or whatever.

TSA: Can we look in your bag?
Me: Sure.
(they look and wand me)
Me: Why was I flagged? Did I do something to trigger it?
Them: Whenever someone books a last minute flight it alerts us that it might be a (whatever, something nefarious)"
Me: Huh. Okay.
Them: Have a nice flight!
Me: Thanks!

The whole thing took maybe a minute and I was on my way without further incident.

Now could I have had a fit and insisted they were violating my rights and no they may not look in my bag? Sure. But I'm not the type of person who likes to make a big deal out of nothing and delay myself to make some silly stand that escalates into a situation that becomes a pain in my ass. Honestly, it never occurred to me to do that.

To each their own.

See that's TSA during screening, which is not the same as DEA after screening when you are just heading for your aircraft. So no, what happened to him and has happened to others is not what happened to you.

One more point. You choice not to exercise your rights doesn't mean others cannot exercise theirs.

None of us have used the terms all cops, nor every single day like you did. And accusing us of wanting to defund the police and supporting ACAB. No, no absolutes from you. :) 1 or 2 in 2.9 million would be pretty rare. Which ,means it could be happening every single day and still be rare. But even if it happens only once 60 million times or once a month, that's still too damn much. The govt takings peoples money with no legal justification other than they made it too hard for you to get it back is not right, nor should it be legal. Carrying cash isn't nor should it be a crime.

Please show examples of any of us saying it happens to everyone all the time, Miss No Absolutes :) And before you quote me again about this, please check the highlighted portion. :)

Read the article. One airline employee flagged five passengers for the DEA in just one day. Keep in mind, that employee gets a cut of anything seized. No incentive for to flag as many as possible. Also odd that the IG report says record keeping and training was shoddy, meaning we might never know how many bags are searched. This isn't information from a blogger, this is the DOJ.

Well, other people have more time on their hands and a bigger appetite for drama. Me, I understand why they check and am not offended by it. So I say, "Sure" and move on with my day.

"Can our drug dog sniff your bag?"
Sure.

"Can we make sure you're not carrying drugs or weapons on the plane?"
Sure.

The cops who pulled me over in NE or WY, wherever it was:
"Where are you headed today?"
Lincoln for the homecoming game. (Then I regaled him with our travels and he was probably sorry he asked.)

If other people have the time and inclination to give the cops a hard time so they can become famous on the internet, more power to 'em.

Oh, so NOW we trust Merrick Garland.....

For day to day stuff, sure. Not like he put the report out.

See, folks advocating for their rights are not automatically giving cops a hard time. Asking cops to act within the law isn't giving them a hard time. Now, if we knew that cops and DEA agents were flawless perfect beings who never infringed on anyone's rights, sure. TSA has the authority to search your bag. DEA needs RAS to do so. And booking a flight close to your trip date shouldn't be enough.

What do you think drug mules do?

That's right - they book flights at the last minute, carry large sums of cash, and give the cops a hard time during a routine check.

So when you do that, you fit a profile and they're going to want more information.

But whatever. What I've been doing so far is working for me, so I think I'll just stick with my program. You do you.

But if the only thing you have done is book a flight last minute, that shouldn't constitute reason to search. And they ususally dont know if you have cash or not. If I had bought that motorcycle, I would have been booking last minute, and had 20K in cash. I wouldn't have argued with a DEA agent, but that's not a requirement for them to take your cash. This guy in the video didn't even have anything. All he had done was book late.
