Some have caught sharks in areas of St Mary's Co.
Here's one from a few years ago...

Today out of Solomon's. We went up by the gas plant and encountered two large pods of dolphins. Probably 150 in the first group and 60 in the second. Killed the motor and drifted along with them. Big ones and babies, all cruising south and doing dolphin stuff. Made our day.

I wanted to sit outside today to watch for them, but had things to do, places to go, people to see...... It was a great day. Maybe I'll get lucky again tomorrow. Life is good.

There are huge schools (pods?) of them in the bay and river now...unprecedented numbers. They are totally decimating the rockfish.

Excuse my ignorance of all things marine.

I get dolphins and whales -- mammals, come up to breathe anyway, so they don't care what the salinity of the water is.

But the fish have gills and such, and breathing, swimming dependent on the salinity of the water, and so are they strictly separated into salty/fresh/brackish water ?
But then you have salmon, hatching in fresh streams, living in the ocean, coming back... Never mind, I walked myself into a SG post :p

Speaking of salmon, yummy smoked salmon.. Salmon caviar on omelette... yum. Need to hit the store for some salmon now, for research.
Bull sharks can swim way up the river they have been caught in fish nets in the Potomac river and they chomp down for keeps

I was lucky enough to see the dolphins again yesterday. I was sweeping off the deck and heard the boaters yelling "dolphins". About five boats and a couple jet skis escorted them from the Navy Annex under the bridge heading towards Solomons. Very cool.

A friend saw them a few weeks ago. They were right by the pier.

Time to kill dolphins then. Nobody f's with the rockfish.
I wish they'd eat a few more. F***ing rockfish don't have enough menhaden because of overfishing by commercial fishermen, so they turn on my beloved white perch.

I fished with 2 manatee last night. I tried to get a video but it wasn't worth the effort.

Who caught the biggest fish - you or manatee?
I believe they are herbivores. I know the ones in NEFL eat a lot of the vegetation in the back creeks.

FWIW, I only caught 1 decent sized fish. But I got a bunch of double headers on by bottom rig. Lots of pinfish and grunts where I was fishing. Some bigger fish were busting bait on the surface. I was hoping to hook into 1 of those with my surface lures but no such luck. Maybe next time.
