I don't think he was a "victim" and I don't think most teens who bang an adult are "victims".

As a former teen seductress (isn't that a nice way to say "skeezer"?), the teen knows damn good and well what they're doing, and they go after it willingly and voluntarily. There is no "rape", just consentual sex between an adult and a minor.

I'd be for eliminating statutory rape laws EXCEPT that they give the parents of a teen skeeze the power to run off an older suitor. Doesn't stop the kid from having sex with people their own age, but it does limit the playing field a bit and gives the parents a smidge of control.

:yeahthat:

Wow, I can't believe i actually agree with vrai. :shocking: :yikes:

Well, I'm not condoning it - I'm just saying that's the way it used to be.

Kids are a lot more immature now than they were back in the day, for better or worse. We get all excited about some 8 year old who has to work a 10 hour day in a factory in Thailand, but 8 year olds back in Colonial times would call that kid a piker.

Not saying it's right or wrong, merely making an observation.

Different time as you stated. Also lifespans were much shorter and children were more "useful" as workers in the largely agrarian society of the colonial era. The reason kids originally did not attend school is the summer was so that they could help tend the fields and farms.

I don't remember Pete saying the double standard deal is crap... he simply pointed it out and is asking if we should just embrace it since there will always be one.

Well Vrai doesnt that negate your argument then?
No, I think they're more immature because we don't expect the things from them that we did back in the olden days. We've kind of dumbed them down by overprotecting them.

Which is not to say that's a bad thing. I don't want to go back to the days where my 17 year old would be contemplating marriage rather than college.
If kids are more immature then they are less capable of understanding that when they are 14 and a 24 comes on to them, its not kewl, its Sick
You will never, and I mean never, convince a 14 year old that it's not cool to have a 24 year old come on to them. A 34 year old, maybe - but not a 24 year old.

...we maybe should note that something that biologically is not a big deal, which is in fact normal, an older male or female noticing the hot bod of a 15 year old boy or girl, is not sick. We just call it that because whenever we use the proper word' inappropriate', it alway sparks people to say 'Oh yeah? keep your morals off my mind!" It's just easier to demonize, to draw a relatively arbitrary line in the sand.

I actually went to high school with her back in florida. I was a freshman when she was a senior. How young am i, ha ha. But anyways from just passing her in the halls and tid bits of conversation you would never know that she would have ever have done this. She was in ambassadors which was like a show chorus thing and always seemed smiley. Guess she had all that bi-polar deep down inside though. Who knows. Just crazy to see people from your past make national news, ha ha

I don't think she's bi-polar at all. I think she's just using that as an excuse to get a lighter sentence, like Andrea Yates and her post-partum depression crap.
