I heard there was another one in Waldorf but I am unfamiliar. I am told the next best walk-in shop is in Crofton

The Waldorf store has been closed for years. This is a huge shame.

I know Doug's in Waldorf has been gone. I thought I had seen somewhere there was another hobby shop owned by someone else. Might have been in Clinton but I think it was up that way somewheer.

I remember when Doug's Hobby Shop was in Shoppers World, where the cake place is. This was before they moved to the place off of 301, next to Fred's Sporting Goods...

Doug's has been in business for a long, long time... it is a shame they are closing their doors. :ohwell:

What exactly are you implying?
:duh:

What I am implying is that they did a poor job promoting their buisness or atleast part of it.

I use to race RC Trucks there and it was the customers that did all the work to the race track to get it usable, I spent many hours there working on their race track. Then they never had the parts in stock for what people raced on the race track (so many ordered offline instead) and they would not put any money into it for a few loads of dirt except whent it was too little too late.

The customers did all the work for this portion of their buisness.

That is what I am implying so go roll your eyes elsewhere.

Getting harder and harder to find small, locally owned businesses anymore. I don;t mind higher prices if it keeps a neighbor in business. I "HATE" anything related to a Chain type business or a Franchise but anymore, That is all we are gonna have left if they don't do something.

The american dream is fixing to be history
.

Thank you, Jeff. It is not easy to be in business these days. I keep hoping the holiday shopping season will give our store a great start to 2009... but we'll see.
It's funny because several people have told me that some of the merchandise I carry is priced less than Petco!
And I appreciate all the folks that DO support small locally owned businesses! Thank you! :howdy:

I belong to a few other forums regarding my little helicopter hobby. I see so many people recommending various websites to get stuff from. Yep, some are cheaper and such but there is something to be said about still being able to walk in to a place and bend someone's ear about something.

Plus, just like you folks do at your place. It's a great way to keep on on what's going on locally with regards to a local shops area of expertise. You can't get that kind of one on one info out of the internet.

I just hope this economy changes soon. Gonna end up driving all of the local businesses out.

I would much rather see my money keep a neighbor in business than go to some chain or franchise and half the profits they make get sent to some headquarters in some major city to a bunch of yuppies sitting around a Board Room. When the time comes that profits are not there they simply look at what stores are going to get scratched off the list with no major regard to how it might effect the local economy. At least if a neighbor is forced to call it quits and go out of buisnes they will go down kicking and scratching every step of the way because it's not just a money maker they are losing but was likely someone's dream.

Hobby Shop on Rte. 2

Doug's Hobby shop shutting it's doors on 12/6. no more Local Hobby Shop

Not sure of the name of it but there is a small hobby shop on Rte.2 about 1 mile up from where 2 hits rte 4. Not sure if that area is called Owings or Huntingtown. Have never been inside but have driven by and they have airplanes hanging from the ceiling so i imagine they carry RC planes not sure about Helicopters. Its in a smalll strip center by a 7/11.

area hobby shops

Hey RPMDAD... the place you are talkin about I believe is Falcon hobbies. I think its Sunderland there. The last time I went in there lookin for train stuff all I saw was skateboarding/skating supplies. If you google it I'm sure you can find the info. As for me I just keep going to G-scale trains in Waldorf. For all you R/C people the only/best local place I know of is GPA hobbies in Crofton. However I have a blind spot for Virginia so you might want to look there. It may be closer for some then Crofton or Glen Burnie/Baltimore.

I remember that too. Doug and I graduated together from Crossland back in 66. :howdy:

I have also seen signs at a house on 235 saying they sell RC airplanes and trains. Northbound side, Oakville area I think (but am probably wrong).
