I did get in touch with his office, and they were able to answer all my questions over the phone.. & because I'm so close to delivering, I'll just meet him or one of his doctors when I deliver, and if I don't like him, then I'll just find a different dr. -Thanks for the info everyone

His staff answered all your questions right... not him... and when you have your baby I guarantee you it will not be him at the hospital.

Some people like him others don't... but you sound like you were in the same situation as me when I signed up with him and I was not impressed at all:boo:

He came to the hospital a number of times when my son was in there at 5 weeks old  And so did Dr. Reed and the lady who is gone.

I think that she meant that he would not be her baby's pediatrician while she's in the hospital after delivery. They usually just use the doctor on duty. I've had 3 babies and their doctors never came to the hospital.

All of my previous pediatricians always came to the hospital at least once when they were first born...except Dr. Miller. I was a little miffed seeing as when I originally called to set up an appointment to go over questions etc. I was told oh we can answer any questions and when you have the baby Dr. Miller will meet with you in the hospital. I think that was a way to have you lock him in as your pediatrician.JMO

I never called and requested them to be there. I guess that is the difference.

If you choose a pediatrician who has partners, the partners take turns being on call at the hospital. So, whichever one who is on call the day(s) you are there will be the one who sees your child.

If you do not inform the hospital who you have chosen for a pediatrician, then whoever the hospital has down as the "on-call" doctor will come see your child. That doctor could be anyone who practices from that hospital.

If that doctor doesn't take your insurance, you are SOL.

When my number 2 child was born, it was by non-emergency c-section. The hospital had a contract with an emergency care pediatrician, who was in the operating room. The hospital contract was such that this pediatrician practice was present for any anticipated "at-risk" deliveries. My insurance refused to pay until I filed an appeal saying I had no control over the issue.

With number 3, I delivered at Civista with Dr Miller's practice down as my pediatricians. I'd seen Dr. Miller the day before delivering because number 2 had a check-up. I told him I was having the baby the next day (another scheduled c-section) and he said straight out that he wasn't the doctor on duty at the hospital that day, so I wouldn't see him. But I did see Dr. Brubaker and Dr. Reed both during my stay.

What do you need your pediatrician at the hospital when your OB is there to deliever the baby?

The only Doctor we saw at the hospital was Dr Polko, who delievered our child. 2 days later we were out, back home. The first time we Dr Miller was our childs first check up....

Because your OB is just that an OB not a pediatrician.

I guess it is comforting to me to have a pediatrician that I know and trust check out my newborn and ease my mind that everything is fine... not some random Dr. that I have never met before.

Someone has to check the child over. An OB will be aware of what to look for in the first few minutes of birth, but after that, the baby's not their job, Mom is. The only thing an OB will do to a child more than 5 minutes after it's born is the OB usually will do the circumcision if there is one.

Usually the child gets one shot in the hospital. Granted, doctors don't actually give any shots, nurses do, but the doctor will order it. Pediatrician should also do a general check up each day the child is in the hospital. And a pediatrician has to sign the release for the baby.

I had that problem too, it just became too much when you factor in all the issues.

Mine came to the hospital when they were born but I didn't have Dr. Miller at the time I had the crazy one that is no longer practicing. But he came not one from the hospital on duty. That's crazy the peditritian should be there and if they weren't they wouldn't be mine.
