I was flipping through and saw the kid with the tv-watching problem. He looked catatonic on that couch. :twitch:

How stupid is the mom that she didn't get rid of the tv's sooner? That would have been the first thing I'd have done after the grounding him from the TV didn't work.

He watched up to 9 hours of tv a day, and she said that sometimes she didn't mind because she could get things done and not worry about him.

and that's the problem ... common sense is on backorder these days.

Maybe all hospitals should be required to send home with all new parents the book - Parenting for Dummies! It couldn't hurt

I think they should include a book on tape to be played while they are enjoying their hospital stay to ensure they get the message:wink:

that's usually too late to instill common sense in "old dogs". :ohwell: One can only hope their bebes were lucky and had some tucked into their "going home" bag from the nurses. :ohwell:

I got her for ya....
Thank you.

Ya know, TV and videos are okay some of the time, BUT, why not give the kid a book to read or some art supplies instead if she wants to keep him occupied while she is doing whatever it is she is doing.

Parents think that TV is a babysitter and it is easy. Pop in a movie and go but with art supplies you have to get the stuff down, keep an eye on them so they don't mark it everywhere, and then clean it up and that is just too much work for some parents. :ohwell:

I don't understand willingly having a child and then just be disinterested in the child.

How old was this kid?

You also have to be aware of what they are watching when they do watch. Some of these shows are violent, and I don't mean tom-and-jerry-funny-unrealistic-violence, but hard core, this could happen to you kinda stuff. Others teach that adults are the enemy and you should disrespect authority. Others have sexual innuendos, that should be above the average 7 year old, but aren't anymore, because even if the parents explain it away harmlessly, someone elses parent gave them the lowdown and that kid is going to share with his friends.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not one of these "tv is evil" types, but I think a lot of parents don't pay any attention to what the kid is watching, as long as it keeps them out of the way for a couple of hours.

I agree with you completely. If there is something that I want to watch and my daughter is around I do not watch it, but I'll tape it for later.

Fortunately, she is not a channel surfer. She goes right to Disney Channel and that is where it stays.

She is really into going to the library and getting books now and reading (learning to at least). :yay:

It's sickening how tv is used as a free babysitter.
:yeahthat: When clotheslines and runners work so well...:ohwell:

Disclaimer: this was a joke. It was in no way intended to be a suggestion for keeping your toddler in check. Had it been a real suggestion, I would of posted pics.

I watched this show for about all I could stomach 90 min. and it made me want to :barf: I've never been a Dr. Phil fan -- he seems wimpy and too wishy washy for me. I watched it for 90 min. because it was the only thing on worth watching and I don't even have kids... There were a few times were I yelled at the TV in front of roommate -- smack those brats!! -- problem solved... I'm definately not going to be one of those "time out now" mothers :ohwell: Fear of being spanked is a good motivator.
