I think children are over diagnosed. These days, everyone is looking for a diagnosis ie: an excuse.
Our entire society has truly gone straight down the crapper.
Ya know, I used to think the same thing. And in some cases, I still do. HOWEVER ... when you detect a lump on your breast and it doesn't go away, you go to the doctor for diagnosis; when you are wheezing after strenuous activity regularly, you go to the doctor ... when you have a growth on your sphincter from
that doesn't go away with PreparationH, (one hopes) you go to the doctor.
When kids have behavioral problems that are not corrected through sincere effort via traditional means (i.e., time outs, spankings, removal of the "fun" stuff, rewards/points system, diversionary tactics, etc.), I see no problem with a parent seeking help from their pediatrician or other medical practitioner to see if something else
is going on upstairs. And if the decision is made to medicate the kid (again,
after sincere effort on the part of the parents), then I don't see it any different than an adult taking a pill to regulate cholesterol, a heart condition, or an inhaler for asthma.
