If he was an upstanding person then the courts would have not had the right to withhold the child from him.

You must not follow these kinds of cases as closely as I do. In most states there is one over-riding factor in determining custody - and that is that the birth mother, unless she's deemed to be completely unfit, gets the kid. And even then, if the mother gets her act together later on, she can petition the courts to reverse the previous order and grant her custody.

Fathers in this country have as close to zero rights as a person can get.

Speaking of the double standard, I am sitting at the computer while my wife watches Dr. Phil. I overhear the mention of abuse by the wife. So, my ears perk up because here is the guy and his wife and he is talking about how violent she becomes. The wife admits it all and its one of those happy, froo-froo, Dr. Phil love ins going on.

What pisses me the hell off is here this women admits almost even beating her baby (although the look she had says to me she already had crossed that bridge) and she freely admits clawing the mans testicles and various other extreme abuses. She wants help. Here is the audience and Dr. Phil talking about getting her immediate help and being so understanding.

Now, imagine that was a man beating his wife that way. Imagine he had almost (if not already) had lost control with the baby. That nice caring female audience and Dr. Phil would have been telling the woman to get the hell out. She needed to take the child and go away. Etc....

An abuser is an abuser. Shut the hell up with the froo-froo stuff because she is a woman. There is a child involved. Tell the man to get the hell out with the child, she has admitted her problem. These things won't change overnight, if ever.

How are people going against the adoption rules? I was under the belief that if a child is adopted, it is legally binded and the birth mother loses all rights to the child. the past few years it seems like that a child can be given up, then reclaimed at whatever point the birth parent is ready to be a parent. or thinks they are ready. I don't understand that.

This is why this is such an interesting case. There never was an adoption. The birth mother documented the fact in court that she told the adoptive parents when the child was born that if for any reason the adoption didn't go through, she wanted the kid back. Now that's pretty odd, and everyone here has made note of that... not because it shows she was scheming to get even with the father but because it helps the adoptive parents' case Then you have the adoptive parents (in name only) waiting two years before going through the adoption process. Again... why? Could it be because they knew, although the birth mother denies telling them, that there could be issues with the father wanting custody and they wanted to have a case for keeping the kid (that's my guess.)

I think that in the good ole days there was no way to overturn an adoption. In this new enlightened era, you can do whatever a judge rules you can do, and that's why lots of crack moms are getting their kids back.

If I'm not mistaken, there are at least 5 single men that frequent this board that have primary custody...

And most of those didn't really have a fight (I said most, not all).

Wait a minute... I happened to have that episode on while I was folding clothes yesterday afternoon... you missed the first half of the show where it was the husband that was the abuser and you missed the touchy-feely "Man, we aren't' hear to attack you, we are hear to help you" speach that dude was getting... so your example is a bad one... try again...:lmao:

Everyone is bastards today. I like the sound of that word today. The people who made a fire drill for teens degree weather, the people who drank my coke from the refriegarator, and people who point out my double standard argument flaws. :peace:

According to this article, they didn't wait at all. It's been in court the whole time.
The Scotts watched Evan’s birth in May 2001, and he was placed with them two days later.

The adoption was supposed to be final in August 2001. But a month before that, the boy’s biological father, Stephen White, filed a motion demanding custody.

Well... I could be wrong. But this didn't come to a head in court until late 2003. On the other hand, I don't believe a word that comes out of the mouths of those adopted parents. They've been caught in so many lies down here it was bad enough for a judge to break the law to get the truth out.

The bio-dad was just on TV. He said he's been visiting the boy once a month for the last 2 1/2 years.
