Driving in Maryland

Would THIS face lie?
Driving in Maryland

1. Turn signals will give away your next move. A real Maryland driver never uses them.

2. Under no circumstances should you leave a safe distance between you and the car in front of you,or the space will be filled in by somebody else putting you in an even more dangerous situation.

3. Crossing two or more lanes in a single lane-change is considered going with the flow.

4. The faster you drive through a red light, the smaller the chance you have of getting hit.

5. Never, ever come to a complete stop at a stop sign. No one expects it and it will inevitably result in you being rear ended. If you want your insurance company to pay for a new rear bumper, come to a complete stop at all stop signs.

6. A right lane construction closure is just a game to see how many people can cut in line by passing you on the right as you sit in the left lane waiting for the same jerks to squeeze their way back in before hitting the orange construction barrels.

7. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork.
Maryland is a no-fault insurance state and the other guy doesn't have anything to lose.

8. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a nice, relaxing foot massage as the brake pedal pulsates. For those of you without ABS, it's a chance to stretch your legs.

9. Never pass on the left when you can pass on the right. It's a good way to scare people entering the highway.

10. Speed limits are arbitrary figures, given only as suggestions and are apparently not enforceable in Maryland during rush hour.

11. Just because you're in the left lane and have no room to speed up or move over doesn't mean that a Maryland driver flashing his high beams behind you doesn't think he can go faster in your spot.

12. Please remember that there is no such thing as a shortcut during rush-hour traffic in Maryland.

13. Always slow down and rubberneck when you see an accident or even someone changing a tire.

14. Learn to swerve abruptly. Maryland is the home of high-speed slalom driving thanks to the State Highway Department, which puts potholes in key locations to test drivers' reflexes and keep them on their toes.

15. It is traditional in Maryland to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light changes.

16. Never take a green light at face value. Always look right and left before proceeding.

17. Remember that the goal of every Maryland driver is to get there first,by whatever means necessary.

18. Real Maryland women drivers can put on pantyhose and apply eye makeup at seventy-five miles per hour in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

19. Real Maryland men drivers can remove their girlfriend's panties and bra at seventy-five miles per hour or in bumper-to-bumper traffic.

20. In the Maryland area 'flipping someone the bird' is considered a polite Maryland salute. This gesture should always be returned.

As I read through those things, I was surprised to note that I wasn't rolling on the floor laughing my tail off. Then it occurred to me that those statements are so close to the truth, they're more sad than funny.

8. A. If the goober behind you at the intersection of 235 and Exploration Drive is not paying attention and rear-ends you at 730AM, don't worry and do not move out of traffic. Just turn on your emergency flashers right where you are and the two of you stand in the middle of the road as living monuments to Gooberdom. By leaving your barely damaged car in the middle of the main thouroughfare and standing next to it you get to create your own personal traffic jam, cause other goobers who are not paying attention to suddenly brake, rear-enders, and you get a front row seat.

My MD Driving School Instructor ACTUALLY said something to the effect of:

16. Never take a green light at face value. Always look right and left before proceeding.

"Just because they are supposed to stop, doesn't mean they're gonna!"

Just last night I'm out in my Blazer, Southbound 301 at a red light when it turns green all these people kept running the light turning right in the way of traffic... So me being a nice person I eyed up a little car and floored it. Full Size Jacked up Blazer jumps off the line... the guy in the little car knew he would not have a prayer so he stopped in the middle of the intersection, trapped because the left and right lanes kept going following my lead

In some states such as VA it is illegal to move your vehicle after any MVA no matter how little the accident is :ohwell: You have to wait for the police to get there then move it.

:yeahthat: And I think there is a fear that if they move the vehicles, the story will change and the officer will not see the position of the vehicles at the time of impact.

Yup, our "new neighbors" from up the road are doing their part. This would be the only traffic law they obey, but they do it well.

The Smart Hooker
I lived in Maryland all my life. I even use to drive to D.C. everyday to work. I aways thought Maryland and D.C. drivers were the worst...WRONG! Have you even driven in Orlando traffic? More then half these people should have their license revoked. Alot of people here are from NY so I can only imagine how and where they learned to drive. Alot of tourist here are very nice, however they don't know where they are going so they will slow down to 40 MPH in a 70 MPH zone or zip across 3 lanes of traffic. There are alot of elderly people there too...not bashing the elderly but some shouldn't be driving...then you have the young kids....they are even worse then elderly drivers. Then again, everywhere you go there a morons on the road.

As I was reading this, I was thinking about how nothing is worse then people who drive in Orlando, and since that is where I learned to drive, I rank myself up there with the best of them :lmao:

These really annoy me. I just stay in my lane while I watch some jerk spend an hour weaving through traffic trying to get ahead. I love it when they end up behind me again. :killingme

You forgot: Real Maryland techies can type on any laptop/blackberry/rim/palm/ect. at seventy-five miles per hour or in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
