If you're going permanent get your license out of state first. Maryland does not recognize driver's training from other states.

Went through that goat rope with my sister. It was ridiculous.

DKP, Not sure what you are looking for. If you are asking if it is legal for a person with an out of state learner's permit to drive in Maryland I would say that it is, if they are abiding by the Maryland law in regard to operating with a LP (being accompanied by a licensed driver over 21 with 3 years experience) and that their home state is a member of the Interstate Driver's License Compact, currently only Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Tennessee and Wisconsin do not belong.

20 years ago when I got be learner's permit here in MD, you can only drive IN MD while on it. You may NOT drive in other states. So I would assume (but I didn't take the time to look it up) that you may NOT (legally) drive in MD with an out of state learner's permit.

Thanks for the input. I checked the MD MVA website. Out-of-state learner's permits are not recognized in the state of MD. Nephew was disappointed.

This thread makes me think of the time my daughter went for her drivers test in order to graduate from her learners to her provisional license. She said the instructor was still shaking his head when he got into the car with her and he told her the following story.

He said he failed the guy who tested just before her. It seems that the kid nearly killed them all at one of the intersections as he did a left turn without yielding to oncoming traffic. Once they managed to make it alive and the instructor had him pull to the side of the road he asked the kid what in the hell he was thinking. the kid replied, "I'm from Calvert County. I don't know this intersection." The instructor replied, "That shouldn't matter! Your license will be good for 50 states and you dayum well don't know all their intersections!"

:lmao:  :lmao:

In that case, a license is a license, including a learner's permit. You are able to drive anywhere with it.

NOT TRUE! It's a learner's permit for a reason, learn to drive in your own state. When I had my learners, that was the law. I'm sure they've only gotten stricter since then.
