I found this too, Chasey. MD has a check mark beside it, so I guess it's okay. :shrug:

I guess I'll find out, if we get pulled over this weekend.

If the kid will be driving your vehicle you might want to ask your insurance carrier if he will be covered under your policy.

In MD you are required to have a license to drive, and a permit is not a license. Nothing in MD law recognizes an out of state permit to be valid.

If you don't find something from MD stating it's okay, then it would be stupid to allow him to drive. And an unofficial website is not enough.

Actually, nothing, that I can find, in MD law invalidates it or declares that it is not recognized.

I didn't say it invalidates it, I said it does not recognize it.

The law does require a license. A permit is not a license. In order for the permit to be valid, there would have to be something in either MD law or MVA regs declaring it so.

So tell me, why did my daughter take driver's education classes, and drive around the county with only a learners?? Surely her instructor would have known it was against the law, as you are saying.

You all crack me up. I called the barracks, county and state, they told me as long as the new driver carrying the learners permit was following the law and driving with a licensed adult over the age of 18 it was legal. (And to state the obvious - the learners permit is valid and up to date from the state that is registered in)

Then they told you wrong.

(1) The holder of a learner's instructional permit may drive the same vehicle and combinations of vehicles as may a holder of the class of driver's license for which the permit holder has applied, but only while accompanied by and under the immediate supervision of an individual who:

(i) Is at least 21 years old;
