I'm saying Gore is a :loser: Bush was some people's first choice and some people's vote against Gore.

I am a poster on somd.com.. Dubya is the leader of the most powerful country in the world.. Big difference.

The *relevance* however is that on any given day, you are JUST as likely to say something a little dopey - just like anyone else. So did Al Gore if you remember. I'm sure, with a tape recorder and a notebook, I could record anyone saying some really stupid things.

And it proves my point about liberals - they're just name callers, because they can't dispute things on their merits.

I don't know about that. Since I am not a liberal, I can't really make judgements on how they feel on this subject.

There is a difference, again, between people on here and the president of the US delivering speeches. Look at the "Bushisms" website.. A lot more there than just simple mistakes.. He completely butchers things on a daily basis.. I'm not judging him by this, but damn.. He has issues. Even he jokes about it saying he has coined new words and phrases..
Yes, Clinton and Gore have done similar things (though not on such a grand scale as dubya) And we laughed at them as well.. But since they are no longer in power, nobody talks about it anymore. I mean, we all stopped laughing at danny boy when he was no longer a presence with his great spelling of potato(e)

You will notice, of course, that some of those links go back several YEARS. If I had a nickel for EVERY faux pas I made *every* day, I wouldn't need to work. But most of the time, nobody makes a big deal of them. Like the federal program SS remark - you and I both know that it's not budgeted with the rest of the federal budget, so it's often considered a separate thing - BUT - some folks toss SS numbers in with the rest of the budget as though it WERE. You KNOW what he MEANT, but - it looks stupid on paper.

Actually, it didn't seem like nearly as much - it just seems like Bush's malapropisms are more closely made fun of. Remember Gerry Ford, and his stumbling? He didn't stumble any more than anyone else - but the press locked onto that. How about Jimmy, and his "lusting in his heart" remark? I just think with Bush, it's something they make fun of a little too much, like with Clinton, they wanted to make him out to be a dumb crass southern boy, who liked McDonald's fries a bit too much. With Bush Sr, the big thing was "I'm not a wimp" and sentence fragments - Doonesbury was always harping on his lack of manliness. But they were all exaggerations. At least Bush was an actual veteran, who saw combat. Not a wuss.

I don't think Bush does it MORE - I think the press focuses on it MORE. Newt wrote a book a few years back, called "Lessons Learned the Hard Way" and one of them was about how you could get your ### handed to you if you weren't careful with every word you said. He naively thought that journalists were focussed on the message he was conveying (and so would give him the benefit of a doubt when there was a slip up of words, or something came out strange), not on how stupid they could make him look. I do give our politicians some leeway - try to focus on what they intend to say, rather than nitpick over the gaffes they make. Don't you?

Sure.. I say we put the "Is Our Children Learning" poster at every school.. I'm sure the kids will figure it out sooner or later..

And then you have things such as his talks about the taliban and al-qaida, saying we were going to go on a crusade... Thought might have been right, but the wording could have been a little different. People ARE judged (rightfully so) on what they say, not what we think they mean.
