Parkland bowling across from Shakees on Penn Ave. and Silver Hill Road. I used to live behind Shakeys on Kentucky Ave. Went to Francis Scott Key Jr. High. Lived on Kentucky Ave for about 16 years. Those were the days. You could go into Shakeys and watch the black and white Three Stooges movies and get Birch Beer.

2nd floor of Dukes Bar in Leonardtown had a duck pin alley. I've heard it's still there.

Yes, still there from what I understand and virtually untouched. My mom talks very fondly of all the time she spent there many years ago. I only knew Duke's from the 70's on but it was an interesting place for sure.

The old duckpin alley in Suitland, was originally called Suitland Bowl. It was owned by Pat Crescenzi, who also owned Parkland Bowl. Pat sold the small bowling alley to Jimmy and Jacque Dietsch, who renamed it Jimmy and Jacque's Duck Bowl. The alley is now owned by Dee and Richard Rockwell, and is called Dee's Lanes. I know all this because I started working there when I was 15. I am still working there part time now. I no longer bowl, but I still know all of these bowlers you are mentioning. Some of them like Jeff Pyles will be bowling at Dee's in a tournament December 12,13 and 14th. Come out and see how many you might remember.

What is your name? I might remember you I mean I did grow up in the bowling alley:crazy:crazy:

Doubtful, bowled 4 or 5 seasons, probably 1985-90, in the late Friday night triples league. Think Denny Call bowled in that league. Most of my bowling was at PG, CP and White Oak. Last time I was up at Suitland, it was a pro tour stop bout 4 yrs ago, stopped in to see some of the people I hadn't seen in awhile.

Those were the days, Saturdays as a young boy, bowling duckpin at the Marlow Heights Fairlanes for the Silver Hill Boys Club, proably for at least a dozen years. Remember those days Wineo Im sure you spent a Saturday or two with your big brothers up there while they bowled. Never ever became fond of ten pins, duckpin was so much more of a challenge.
Wineo Im sure you remember Billy Watson, he was one of the top ranked duckpin bowlers on the East Coast.

I worked at Marlow Heights Lanes for about three weekends as a janitor. I was in High School. As a kid, I bowled in leagues on Saturdays for the Capitol Heights/Seat Pleasant Boys Club

My mother used to take me to the Suitland Drug store for an egg salad sandwich and coke at the counter. At the time we lived on Hudson Avenue behind the China Sea. Fountain cokes are the best.

bump. Has anything changed? I did a quick internet search for duckpins in Maryland, and the only ones I can find are in Severna Park and Silver Spring.

Just getting a 10 (spare) in that game was a major accomplishment, at least for me.

Whatever happened to the 60's and 70's, when at least Americans were Americans, regardless of (R) or (D)?

My hubby is a duckpin fan...grew up at Suitland with his mother, brothers, friends and all duckpin bowling in teams. He still misses it and thinks it will eventually return.

I think he held a record at one time.

Anyone from early to late 70s early 80s..Suitland area alleys

I used to live in Suitland Manor, gone now. My friends and I used to hang out at the bowling alley, that was a blast. I once did a one hop into the overhang and got kicked out for the summer. Used to eat at the Red Barn. Last I saw it was a laundrymat.

I used to bowl in a league in Bowie, my dad continued to bowl there until the landlord jacked up the rent and they closed. He went to Suitland for one season and stopped going. I could go bowling right about now.

Thanks to Password for bumping up this thread, the conversation about duck pin bowling reminds me of the way many folks in New England view candle pin.
