it seems as if all there is to do is eat and shop, not enough to go out and do. Does anyone else agree????

I couldn't agree more on the agreeingest day of my life if I had an electrified agreeing machine.

Honey...believe me..this place needs to be built up....
BullCHIT!!

This place doesn not to be built up and become Waldorf South.. you need to get off your lazy azz and when you want to go out and do something different drive ALL the way to Waldorf or DC and do it!!

This area is fine just the way it is. What we need is more mom and pop owned businesses, less plazas.. and chain restaurants.. Grocery Stores like Raleys.. Shops more like Mike's Bikes.. You know, where they REALLY apreciatte your business, and even remember your name when you come back.. I'll pay the extra $$$ to give someone like that my business!!

There are two bowling alleys (including the one on base) and you can play pool at just about every bar in the county. I don't see either thing as something we "need". I like Sharon's idea (indoor shooting range).
On the subject of a billiards bar, does anyone remember the drug haven that was Sharkey's in Leonardtown. 'Nuff said.

As for building this place up more, move to Waldorf.

...which is why I moved down here years ago from Waldorf. I refuse to even drive through there anymore. If Ms. Navy Wife doesn't like it here....bye, don't move here and sh!t in my backyard.

City people are never happy here. They want nightlife and 24 hour everything. I, on the other hand, HATE the city life that never sleeps. I can handle it for short stints but to live there - no way. People should just stay where they're comfortable and obviously the person who started the thread is comfortable in the city. They are welcome to return there. :coffee:

What's up with all the hostility?

I definitely wish there were more things to do around here without having to drive for an hour to do it.

And I don't see why adding activities would turn this place into "Waldorf South".

Taking my kids to Nicolet Park or Hyperspace or that God-Awful movie theater is great the first 6,000 times, but it loses some of its luster after a while.

Have you ever taken them soft crabbing or fishing at Greenwell State Park or Elm's Beach or St. Mary's River State Park or Point Lookout?

I just don't understand. We NEVER went to the movies or Hyperspace (it didn't exist) or the park when I was a kid. We built forts in the woods. Can't do that anymore because the maximum distance between houses now is 2 feet. We played in the fields. Can't do that because everything has been developed. We rode our bikes. Can't do that anymore because every road is now a major highway.

Yeah, development is great :sarcasm:

But my response was to someone saying this area HAS to be built up..

Activities are here, you just have to find them..

Between, crabbin, fishin, sailing.. and the host of other activities, I run out of week-end before I run out of stuff to do..

And as far as the Navy wife, goes.. PM me about CHEAP sailing lessons.. something for you to do!!

I know nothing
I have to admit, when I first moved here I thought the same thing. However, shortly there after I met some people, started making friends and got involved in the community. Since then this place has grown on me and I enjoy it. I have a great circle of friends and Im very lucky my son has a safe enviornment to grow up in. Oh yeah, I met my wife here :huggy: who is a local girl....

I couldnt think of living anywhere else.

But instead of building more restaraunts...I think there needs to be a bowling alley that actually stays open and a billards place like Q Master. I am not from the area but for the two years that I have been here..it seems as if all there is to do is eat and shop, not enough to go out and do. Does anyone else agree????
A little advice from someone who moved her family around for over 20 years in the Navy.
You evidently are the big whiners that prefer to stay on the base and not get involved in community activities. Where do you volunteer? What have you contributed to the community as a whole? Home is where you make it kiddo!

Thank you. It pisses me off when people complain. I'm now faced with the fact that if I want my kids to grow up like I did, I will have to move away from the only place I've known and all my family. 23 years, down the crapper. Because the navy wives want a Super Walmart.

We had Jamesway, Kmart in the park and a Safeway. Everything else was pretty much Mom and Pop. We survived. Thrived even.

Soft-crabbing and fishing isn't really our thing. I've taken the boy fishing a couple times. He wasn't really into it. I don't care for it, but I would have kept taking him, had he shown a spark of interest. I seriously doubt the girl will be interested, although I plan on taking her out once just to see. When the other boy is old enough, I'll take him fishing to see how he likes it too.

On the other hand, by the time he gets that old, we may be far away from any body of water.

I built forts and chased my friends through the woods when I was a kid too. My kids run and play with the other neighborhood kids as well. But going out and doing things as a family, there's not much beyond - as the original poster pointed out - shopping or eating.

Where do you live?

Because if you look at an aerial photograph of the area I live in, the solid rain-forest looks like broccoli from horizon to horizon north, south, east and west.

Did anyone notice that in Prince Frederick it looks like they are building a minature golf course? Now that would be a fun thing to do.But they have built enough stuff already.
