been studying buddhism and hinduism for almost five years now. I think they are often misunderstood. Though they differ from western religions in some ways, ultimately they seem to take people to the same place. Christianity teaches that we all suffer because we are all sinners and deserve to feel this way. Buddhism teaches that we suffer because we desire. of course this is assuming that the point of religion is to end suffering. though people undoubtedly have other reasons for pursuing faith(social, political etc) I think many people are motivated by personal suffering or otherwise just a sense that something vital is missing from their life. It seems to me that spirituality in one form or another is very much a part of being human. Definately not trying to step on anyone's toes, but if anyone has any input it would be greatly appreciated. How do you feel about eastern religions?

No, they have one huge difference, and depending on who you are, that's the difference between life or death. Christians believe that the only way to God is through Christ. There is no Jesus in Buddhism.

wrong you are, many buddhists think of christ as a great teacher and moralist. i know full well how evangelical christians feel about christ. this is aimed at those who are willing and able to push their understanding farther and see their faith as one of many. but thank you for that anyway

There is a vast difference between belief in a man as a "a great teacher and moralist" and God come as man as Savior and Lord.

Satan knows Jesus is real and certainly believes in Him; just not as Savior and Lord.

"I have regarded Jesus of Nazareth as one among the mighty teachers that the world has had... I shall say to the Hindus that your lives will be incomplete unless you reverently study the teaching of Jesus."

163 pageviews and only 3 people have opinions on the issue? i find this hard to believe. Let us remember that Muslims believe just as(or more) firmly that Mohammed was a greater messenger than Christ. The humanist will claim that all religions are appropriate in context within a range of human perception. Buddhists and hindus look at the world in much the same way.

Lord, I apologize.
Religion is up to the person….

Being a good person shouldn’t come out of a bible, it should be taught to you by your parents. Besides the 10 rules (commandments) everything else isn’t needed.

I believe “religion” for the most part was created to make the people conform to a certain behavior that the creators wanted the people to act like.

i agree, people should act virtuously because they want to, not because the feel that they have to. otherwise their attempts are halfhearted at best

thank you, i always set aside a few minutes a day to appreciate my air, making sure i'm completely aware of every breath. if you wonder what buddhism is really about, it's that. awareness of subtly. heaven on earth.
