It sure wasn't predicated on freedom of speech, as the left has now embraced the idea of censorship, openly.
They're fine with social media blocking stuff they don't want, and they're totally ok with voting in another party's primary to prop up weak candidates. They're good with government whimsically shutting down businesses and declaring parents as terrorists.
What threat to democracy did the GOP present? The right of a woman to choose? Guess what - they now do have that right. If their state votes on it, they choose and not nine judges in Washington.

The threat was allowing candidates to hold office and over see elections who denied the truth that the 2020 was fair and uncompromised.
Voters largely saw through Trumps and 193 other candidates lies and rejected the claim that BIden was unfairly elected.
This was a large rebuke to anyone who tried to decertify Biden's win or elect an alternate slate of electors.
Voters told those bad actors they want people who follow the law and uphold the constitution and their elected duty.
It is the MD 6th Congressional district that used to be solidly Rep. It was redrawn after 2010 census to take out portions of Carroll County (red) and add portions of Montgomery County (blue). Then two years ago Annapolis tried to redraw it to make it even more blue. The MD Court of Appeals stepped in and said no, and to redraw it to make it more balanced. Because of that court ordered redraw, the Reps have a chance to take the House seat back.
