Electric range to Gas range

Right now we have no gas in our house. My electric stove is on its last leg so I will be replacing it. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to replace it w/ a gas stove. Is that an option? If so who would I call? Has anyone else done? Is it pricey?

Yes, it is an option. You'll need to hire a professional to add gas pipe line from your kitchen to the gas tank outside. You will need a building permit to have it installed and all. Not very expensive.

I highly recommend Suburban Gas company, and you should contact them and see how they can help you. They have employees that can install gas pipe lines, and they will get building permit for you.

Do not call Taylor Gas, they get upset that you don't buy fireplace or stove from their store and refuse to provide you gas service for your tank.

After cracking my third Electric Stove Glass Top in 20 years (My Fault)

I decided to go to Gas. Works great, was not much problem to
switch to gas. I can now use the cooktop to cook with during power outages. (No Oven).

I have also used it for supplemental heat during Power Outages.

I have been very happy with it.

Cool thanks guys! Was it pricey to switch to gas? How often do you have to have the gas filled?

No, it is not pricey to switch to gas. To fill an entire tank is about $500 to $700, but it last about a year depending how often you use the stove to cook.

I only have gas fireplace, and I only need to refill the tank every 2 years. My parents have gas stove, and they refill it every 6 months because they have gas stove and gas fireplace.

In a long run, it will be a good investment. :yay:

BTW, you have a choice to have them come out to fill it up once a month, and the bill is $7ish a month.

Ok that isnt too bad. Did they run the line for free or was that an additional fee?

I bought my fireplace from Hearth and Patio place in Waldorf, and they ran the line for free, but I had to pay for building permit for them to install the line and fireplace. No biggie deal.

I don't know about Suburban Gas Company. Call and find out what their prices are and how they can help you.

Are you sure about this? I can see it for a fireplace because you are affecting the structure but just replacing a stove?

To add the pipe lines in the house inside the walls, under the basement ceilings/crawlspace ceilings, etc. You need to have it inspected to make sure it is installed correctly or a house will blow up.

I've used Taylor Gas exclusively, never an issue. They installed a gas fireplace, tank and ran the gas line in my old house - no building permit in St. Mary's. Perhaps the process was incorrect, can't say for sure. They also did my new construction work; connected a stove not purchased from them, and a fireplace not purchased from them - no issues, quality work.

Absolutely not true.

We are converting from an electric stove/oven to a gas range. Taylor Gas is running the gas line for us, with NO hesitation or problems. As a matter of fact, they have been wonderful to work with, and if the need arises, we will work with them in the future. We used them to install two gas fireplaces, as well. We are on schedule to have our work completed on our gas range this coming Tuesday. :yahoo:

And you don't need a freakin' building permit to install a residential gas line for a stove.

Taylor Gas hooked us up with a temp. tank, since the other one is buried from the trees that came down.

Good news. :yay:

Yep, they've installed for us two gas fireplaces, and we are about to get our new gas range hooked up next week, as well as hook up a gas instant hot-water-on-demand tank. The new water tank is natural gas, and we need it converted to propane, and they are also doing the conversion for us.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Taylor Gas to anyone. Because we are adding two additional gas-operated appliances to our household, we might need to have Taylor gas come back out to see if we need a larger tank. If so, we will have that larger tank buried.

Everyone has different experiences with different companies. Just because your experience with them was good, doesnt mean they are on the ball 24/7. Strawberry was giving her experience.

No problems. I had a plumber (Affordable Plumbing) install a line (with a three outlet 'T'). drilled through brick/block into crawl space then ran the line. One line each for drop in stove top, fireplace and outdoor grill. Taylor installed tank and regulator. Electricity was no big deal either, just installed another outlet.
No building permit needed in St. Mary's that I know of.

She made a blanket statement stating that Taylor Gas would refuse you service if you didn't buy the applicance from them. Absolutely not true.

Why wouldn't I correct something that is such an obvious mis-statement?

I'm not moody, I just don't like someone putting out bad information that could cost a good company some business.
