Fun fact: people in the private sector have to find new jobs all the time. Like, ALL the time. If the company they work for is downsizing, jobs go on the chopping block.

Well, the government is downsizing.

The hysterics are making a big deal about "Oh no! People will be fired!" like that's the end of the world and their only choice will be to live in a box under a bridge. And that's silly. They'll find another job.
I get it, you don't care when people go back on their word. If the government paid competitively and the retirement was entirely 401k (TSP) I would be with you. But people were sold a bill of goods (less pay in exchange for security) and have invested in a pension that will become largely worthless if they are separated a long time before they are eligible for retirement. The FERS retirement doesn't get a COLA until the person is 62, so if they are let go at 40 with 20 years of service, by the time they are eligible to collect that retirement their "high 3" years will be 20 years out of date which means their pension will be worth pennies on the dollar. Where a 401k would continue to increase in value every year rather than lose value.

But that's fine, they're going to axe your social security as well so you will get to feel the burn too.

Right, so all the old people that that's all they have to live on can just die in the gutter. Definitely gonna happen.

You act like ALL government employees are going to be on the street, and that's not reality.

As far as I know not a single federal employee was drafted, they were and are employed at will. Just because a moron thinks that they have job security doesn't mean they actually have it. Federal staffing levels have needed to be cut for decades, we are finally getting it although way way overdue. I don't feel sorry anyone of those pretty much worthless staff members. If they were working, there for a pension they were fools to begin with.

If all they are going to do is sit around on their butt for 22 years waiting to turn 62 they weren't much count to begin with,

I heard last night that that Bill Clinton cut over 400K from the Fed workforce.

Look, I'm glad the Trump Administration is doing all the right things, but I DO have a queasy feeling about Musk. Ask yourselves why he is involved in this mess at all? Money? Prestige? Power??? Just a narcissist?
Don't kick me in the nuggies, but what if BIDEN gave control of most of the Government to a Chinses millionaire? (Yeah, I know he probably did!!!!!)

Why not? If not him, then who?

The big bugaboo for everyone seems to be that he's a billionaire, at least that's what his haters always mention. I'm not sure why that's even a factor. I'm more likely to think his motives are pure *because* of that.

He's involved because he has the technology to do it quickly and the little geeks to make it happen. IMO he's the perfect person. Another plus in his column is that he bought Twitter specifically to stop the censorship of conservatives. He looks like a patriot to me, not sure why everyone else hates him.

He's clever, he thinks outside the box, he likes to solve problems with innovative ideas. Presumably, he got the idea for his tunnel boring company because he was stuck in traffic and thought, man, I could use a tunnel right about now.

So he found a way to improve tunneling technology - decades out of date - and started The Boring Company.

Many years ago, when my Walkman KEPT DRAINING MY BATTERIES - I mused - why do I need these freaking batteries? Why not just stick the music in MEMORY and power my headphones instead? (This was around 1982). So I fiddled around with memory, MIDI files - and realized - I didn't know how to make it. Years later - somebody invented the iPod. MUSK is the kind of guy who would have invented it in 1982.

I think he's just that kind of guy. He thinks like an engineer.

Gutfeld mentioned this kind of stuff -

He loves trolling these assh*les, because it rattles their cage and they have nothing else to talk about.

Jerry Doyle - of Bablyon 5 fame who later became a conservative radio host (until his death in 2016) - used to refer to something he called "the grapefruit effect". It's the same basic idea of forming a line that does nothing - and see if people are dumb enough to stand in it. Or have people point to the sky in a small crowd - and see if other people will stop and look.

His premise was - you take a video of a grapefruit - and post it. Before long, it will make news - because that's how stupid people are.

Honestly, the more the demons in the MSM demand I fear and loathe Musk, the more inclined I am to like him. The enemy of my enemy and all....

Musk gets the publicity. If it was some Joe Shmo Trump asked to go dig into this it wouldn't get nearly as much airtime. I'm wondering if Vivek is regretting leaving.

Sneakers

Just sneakin' around....
Don't forget Musk was a Dem, and they treated him like a criminal. Constant lawsuits, made it tough to do business to the point where he left Cali. He switched parties and teamed up with Trump to make things right, and for a bit of payback.

It has been dropping from attrition for years, for the last 10 years all I've heard is "brain drain" due to the large number of workers that were near retirement age vs the younger workers that the government was having a hard time attracting. I'm in the middle group (GenX) which is a fairly small group.

Here is a serious question, if government employment is reduced would you be against higher pay so they could attract good workers or do you still want the best workers on a bargin? The last 5-6 years we have pretty much been hiring any electrical engineer that will accept the job because they have been so hard to attract and most leave before they achieve journey level competence (5ish years).
