Employment in St. Mary's

It seems like the employment in this going is going down. I look in the Enterprise and all I can find are jobs up the road. With all of the NAVAIR expansion you'd think that there would be more jobs available.

It depends on what you do to be honest. Admin jobs fill fast, because there are lots of admin. assistant type of people out there.

At my company those type of jobs usually get filled before they officially opened to the public.(Internal posting)

go to HRO on base-get a list of all the contractors in the area and start getting a resume out to them! There are always some listed on here in the classifieds also. If you have friends that support the base get your resume to them to pass on to their companies..... emailing it to them is best--most companies prefer it that way rather then a hard copy-unless you want to enclose it on a floppy drive also with the hard copy. Good luck!!

My company has been trying to hire people for four years. Maybe your resume sucks?

How about a Police Dispatcher position with the Maryland State Police. It takes several months to get hired on, you have to take a test, get interviewed and pass a background investigation which includes a polygraph.

Apply online

The position is rotating shifts, weekends and holidays. It isn't all weekend, it isn't all holidays and shifts are rotated so nobody gets stuck on the same shift all the time.

The last I heard, St. Mary's County had several openings.

I have observed that women applying for many jobs, especially with defense contractors, don't get a fair shake when their resumes go through the initial screening.

I recommend that any female applying for a job not use your full name (just initials and last name) and that you remove any reference to your sex in the correspondence and resume you submit.

Nickel has been looking for a job for more than a year now! Still no luck...

I think she has lost track of how many resumes she's submitted!

To get a foot-in on government jobs at Pax..its all about who you know!

Or it could be about joining the armed forces and letting them pay you to learn the skills that let you get a govt. job when you get out. I heard about a guy who did it that way once :duh:

UNemployment in St. Mary's is minimal - something like 2.8% - and we all know that a large percentage of those simply don't want to, or can't work. Another large percentage of this number consists of people with higher degrees. The employment situation here forces employers to use other means to locate qualified employees. The classifieds here on somd.com are filled with job postings that probably aren't printed in the newspaper. Check other online resources, and Good luck!

I hope if you are applying for Admin. positions your resume is not full of typos and gramatical errors. Double check it for errors otherwise it is a sure fire way for your resume to end up in the round file.

I hope if you are applying for admin that you have a freakin Masters Degree! I've seen ads for receptionists, where a BA is required...sorry, if I had a BA I wouldn't be answering somebody else's phone all day.
[font=&quot]With the job market being as bad as it is, employers can ask for an educated receptionist and get it.

BTW, my link to state jobs also has ANOTHER link to other state agencies for other positions. It is located at the top, so what you see is not all the state has to offer.
