Enterprise Car Rental (Waldorf)

I don't sign anything when I rent, and all I get is a little piece of cardboard that sits in the window with my name on it..

Jes sayin..

That's the corporate preferred customer treatment. We get it too. Because our company does such high volume under contract, little things like dings are ignored. However, I STILL do a walk-around each time.

My friend Skip uses rental cars for all of his trips and has a saying for using them. "No curb to steep, no pothole too deep, no gas to cheap, eff it it's a rental" I am sure his line of thinking is because his company is picking up the tab.

I personally had the same thing happen to me at the Enterprise rental in the Lexington Park in 2006. My car was in the shop and I made a reservation online for 4 days for a compact at a great rate. I declined the insurance as I had full coverage on my vehicle that covered a rental as well. I thought I did a very thorough walk around and I did on the body and interior of the car. I ended up needing to extend the rental for two more days and had to go back in for some unknown reason. When they came out and looked at the car they pulled the same crap with me saying their was a scratch on the plastic painted wheel cover. I never thought to look at the wheel covers the tires were inflated.:ohwell: They told me they were going to file with my insurance company and I knew I had a 250 deductible. I offered to buy a whole new set of plastic wheel cover things which would have been less than 100 bucks even though I knew I has not swiped or rubbed any curb while I had it.

In the end they told me if I upped and got their insurance for the last few days of my rental it would all go away. So they scammed me and in the end it cost me thirty extra bucks but you live and you learn. I will never rent from them again. I love Hertz and Avis they are great. As far as Enterprise goes I rented from them five to six times in the 90's and never had a problem. I think these types of tactics have cropped up in more recent years.

i used to work at enterprise rental car in waldorf. i was the assistant manager the day the office across from ken dixon opened. i quit after a year of managing, but thats another story.

we used to try to sell the insurance. yes, it benefited our bottom line, but there was also one thing it was good for us. if something happened, we wrote it off as a cost of doing business. we HATED approaching people and collecting deductables. for one thing, if you didn't get a deposit/deductable for the damage on the day they are there, you were NEVER going to get it. thus the urgency to collect first, confirm later.

they do not want to make money on damages to their cars, in fact there are laws that say they cannot. they can get in a butt load of trouble, and if we have relationships with body shops that give us discounts, the exact price we were charged gets charged to the customer responsible for damage. ex. collect $500 for stupid ding in bumper. bumper plus install cost $420, we refund $80 to customer. most damages were over a grand however, you know how body shops are, so we collect deductable, and file claim with insurance for the rest. anyways, loss control often will look through paperwork to see if there were any marks on past 5 rentals, to see if the jerk at the counter (us) missed it. no matter your cocamani story (i didn't mean yours whoever posted it) didn't matter a lick. you're responsible for the car, and even some jerk who went off roading had a story of how well he took care of the car and how little he drove it.

that being said, we would rather have a positive survey than make a couple extra bucks on damages. profits and customer service surveys (esqi) were weighted equally in determining promotions and how well an office was treated for the month after their three month rolling average came out, lol. seriously. all we wanted out of life was to patt a customer on the butt and hope that in the one in ten chance someone called them to see how their experience was, they would say that they were "completely satisfied". they really dont want to stir up trouble on false claims.

anyways, i hope i didn't take an opinion on this issue. i have gotten alot out of these forums, and just wanted to put in my .02. i have not worked there for 7 years now, as i now go to car dealers and do their windshield repairs and so on. in fact once i tried to solicite enterprise's business and it didn't work out. :1bdz: no loyalties, just the facts.

cocamani?? yea whatever, you sound like the manager the day i was in there :geek:

Why dont they keep the rental history in store? When i asked them about that they gave me some BS story about enterprise picking that up that paper work twice a week.. well the guy that rented the truck right before me was less than the day before hand...you mean to tell me they came and took those files from the time i took it, to the time i returned? Sorry thats fishy , i dont care what you say.

Anyway ..a 30 second look over of the truck is sketchy to me.. and from what i have been reading all over the internet, sounds like they practice that, then try and burn the customer.. I've read about numerous attempts by enterprise to collect $ on old damage to vehicles.

Also my wife is an insurance adjuster, and said there is no way a chrome bumper would cost $500 to replace, since it will not have to be painted. She deals with body shops daily. Regardless they are full of crap, and she agrees. I DID NOT cause this damage, and will be fighting it once they try to sue me.

well i hope you win. if its something the size of a golf ball on the bumper, we often let stuff like that or little scratches go, as long as the car had 10k miles or more. no point in losing the customer for life on something minor.

cocamani (if i spelled it right) was a reference to stories i remember years ago as i worked there. we became hardened to them. if damage had to be collected, we made the decision before we confronted the customer. i made sure to (indicate) that it did not refer to your story. i believe you completely. i'm not on the other side. i just wanted you to know what their point of view might have been.

they have an outside company collect and scan electronicly all the paper invoices for their records. that way they dont have to look through them one by one, they search electronicly (at loss control) for invoice numbers or by stock numbers if they're looking for previous damage on a certain car. im not saying that's right that they couldn't look at it right there at the store. we did it on occasion.

i was always very through walking around a car with a customer. i told them about our damage waiver, then if they declined, i said "no problem, but lets walk around the car to document any damage that might be there. unfortunately its not like your personal car. if you get a star on the windshield, or a scratch or ding in the paint, you can let it go if you choose. however we fix everything, and youre responsible for the car while you have it." sometimes i sold the partial insurance after the walk around just because i made them aware of their responsibility. either way, we got a good walk around of the vehicle. might have been someone who hadn't been taught as well, or had never been through that experience before. once they tick off a customer or two, they learn to do a good walk around.

good luck with the case.

They aren't going to replace the bumper, just charge you for it and continue renting it as is.

A dented bumper isn't worth them taking the car out of rotation.

Besides, a good hammer strike to the back of the bumper will probably take care of it.

The dent was only maybe ½ an inch tall, and maybe a quarter of an inch wide, not very deep either.. not even golf ball sized , and the bumper was dirty and obviously wasnt fresh. When the guy brought it up i said "you are kidding right? for that small dent?"

Of course they already sent me something in the mail about it... i just laughed and put it aside so i can access the claim # and what not when the time comes.

sometimes they won't collect very hard, but when the time comes to rent a car again (from enterprise) you'll be blacklisted until its paid.

And you actually think I would rent from them again after this crap? ....NOT! :killingme: I would rather walk 10 miles in the dead of winter than rent from them again!

I worked in insurance claims for 10 years. We dealt with Enterprise on a daily basis but this same issue happens with all rental agencies. What I learned about renting a car is to take my own pics of the rental when I pick it up, then again when I return it. So many people say that they returned the car with no damage, or that the damage was pre-existing when they got the car. I notice that the rental agents always mark on my rental agreement that I work/worked in claims. Wonder why?

UPDATE

Well still no word from Enterprise on this matter, so i GUESS they wont be trying to take it any further *shrug* which is good of course. I went by there last week and the same truck was sitting there still damaged in the area they claimed that i caused. Crooked crooked people, wonder if they got anyone else for the same damage since?
