Why get their insurance?
For just a few bucks it could save your ass. I have only rented a car twice in my life but I've seen the nightmares others have gone thru.
Why get their insurance?
Ummmm.... no... it's practically the cost of the actual car rental and is charged daily.Exactly and ALWAYS get the insurance. You never know what might happen. It's only a few bucks.

It does, but if you don't purchase the rental cars insurance and they file a claim against your insurance company, they will charge your insurance company the daily rental cost for that car for each day it is "out of service". If it takes their repair shop three weeks to fix the ding... your insurance will be charged the daily rental cost of that car for each of those days on top of the cost to repair the car.I always thought that my auto coverage would apply if I needed it?

Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong thing then. I can remember paying a few bucks extra for something.

I'm confused. Your first sentence says it will be taken care of, then the rest of your post goes to say you will be charged everything.
You will be charged everything as in "your insurance company" will be charged everything.
It counts as a claim against you.
Socki... when they say "It only cost $24.95" for the rental insurance do you want it?" make sure you ask is that for the week... and then see if you can keep as straight face when you do the math quickly in your head when they reply, "Oh no... that is a daily charge."
Yeah, as some people get some strange without using a condom and manage not to pick up a STD. Point?I don't know, I never inspect my cars, and have never had an issue.

Avis gives you a paper that tells you to do a walk-around and note the dings, dents, scuffs etc. and that is given to the exit guy before you leave with the car. He/she signs it and you get a copy to keep. If you pay attention to what you sign each time you rent, you will see you are agreeing that if you did not mark the issue prior to exiting and Avis choses to file a claim to get it fixed upon your return, you are responsible.Well, I average 2 or 3 car rentals a month
In the past 6 years have never had an issue, but I never rent from Enterprise and almost solely rent from Avis..

As for you never checking and never having a problem, it very well could be that Avis is not in the market to rip off their customers as it appears Enterprise seems to be. Regardless, you do make yourself legally responsible for any/all damage not noted in the walk-around once you leave the lot.
I don't sign anything when I rent, and all I get is a little piece of cardboard that sits in the window with my name on it..
Jes sayin..
Then you are spezul...
