do you not have a heart too Vrai? I'm just a generous person is all - I still dole out money to them here and there. I was in traffic 3 weeks ago and a homeless lady with a sign came banging up on my truck door and I gave her cash. :frown:

Then why not do a good deed for the poor bipolar guy? He's a human being, too, you know.

He was strung out on crack, slurring his words and you could see your reflection in his bleary eyes. He also didn't appear as homeless as the other lady. This guy was dressed average like. The other lady had things all stuck in her hair, etc..:frown: She looked like your avatar -- I thought it was you and I was trying to be nice:shrug:

No it was a very foolish thing. A good deed is assisting someone you know needs help, and assisting them can be anything from teaching them to read, helping them find a place to live or give food to a shelter. But it's usually done for people who are truly deserving of help and in a manner that provides for your safety. Rolling down your window and giving a stranger money is STUPID and you are lucky you are alive to tell about it.

Not to be bashed more but I've also given rides for these folks and money at the same time. I'm ok - just too friendly is all. Generally, I do donate to shelters and realize that money handed to them is usually not spent well. But sometimes, I just can't help it. Especially when most of them look like vrai:shrug: I just feel bad for those that are "honestly" down on their luck.:frown:

So the crack guy is, like, only a little bit homeless?

Note to panhandlers: Dems will only give you money if you have stuff stuck in your hair.

I have stuff stuck in my hair. Do you need my mailing address for the check or do you want to pay by credit card?

Nag Nag Nag Nag Nag. Not to bash, but I can't believe that a single female working in DC is not a little more cognizant of the dangers that she is inviting when she does foolish things, even if they are well intentioned.

Well what do you do when they start hounding you at the gas stations and jump on your windshields to wipe and then beg for you to let them pump your gas for a few bucks???? I can handle myself here -- I've been working downtown for 16 years. It just took a lot of getting used to and desensitizing. Mig, does this mean when you show up at chi chi's friday night, you'll have stuff stuck in your hair too???

What about the good samaritin -- did people not stop because he was waiting for a friend to help him? Or did people not help him because he wasn't their friend?

You are an "enabler" by giving them money you enable their pandering lifestyle. However, I need new countertops and would gladly accept donations since you toss money aobut do freely.

Shout "Go away" and if that fails wave a large caliber semi-automatic handgun at them.

Oh poo! :duh: When I went to school in DC for a while, I had my core group of homeless I used to hang out with in Dupont Circle while waiting for my sister to get off work. They always treated me with an enormous amount of respect, and we had a blast. I imagine my status with the homeless was elevated above those who merely throw them a few bucks. I was dating a guy who owned a liquor store, and I always "hooked a brotha up". They all probably had to be checked into the Betty Ford clinic after I was done with them. (and the poor liquor store owner I was dating probably went bankrupt!) :jet:

True Story.

I was just trying to help is all.:frown: some of them can get downright verbally abusive. I remember getting cursed at while waiting for the van pool about 12 years ago with another rider and the guy came up, demanded money and I only 13 cents. I gave it to him and he threw it back at me and continued getting up in our faces and hollering, etc..

I just try to help out when I can and do unto others. One night a guy ran out in front of my car about 8 years ago and was all in a panic because he said his garage closed and he needed money to get his car out and that it cost $50.00. I gave him a ride to where he had to go, gave him the $50.00 to get taken care of and generously gave him another $50.00 in case he ran into any further problems. He looked legit and was dressed nicely and wanted my info so he could return the money. So I told him where I worked and even informed the receptionist that if he stops by and I'm not there to hold the money for me. He never returned. I then discussed this with a coworker and she told me he was a con and that he tried to hit her up a few months ago - same guy and everything. I asked her if she lost money on him and she said "hIll no!!!!" And then looked at me as if I had grown a third eye or something.:frown:
