If I am not mistaken, you sit on trials in B'more.

I am currently on county jury until mid May. It's already been a couple weeks. It's a piece of cake. Actually, I sat on one jury trial, 1.5 days. Very interesting, I have to say. I have enjoyed it so far.

It's my duty...:patriot:

Have fun in Baltimore. Hope they pay mileage.
You'll get mileage but since court usually starts about 9 A.M. it's wise to have then get you a hotel room and just stay up there instead of runnning the roads especially with the gas prices what they are now. The Federal Court House is very close to the inner harbor. Great food, great scenic areas to visit. You do get paid so much per day. Be sure to claim it on your income taxes the following year as the payment is considered income.
I served on a Federal Grand Jury in Baltimore and it was an absolutely memorable experience I shall never forget. Several Nigerians were here on student visas, although no one was in school and they were in their 30's! They were taking a short cut to success and instead of getting an education they were importing high end stolen cars from Europe in which they were stashing drugs for resale in (where else) Prince George's County. They were making 100% profit on the cars and 100% profit on the drugs. It sure was an interesting case and my fellow jurors were really nice people. Aside: We sent them to federal prison after they served their time they were deported back to Nigeria. One day I opened my door here in SMC for a delivery from UPS and was suprised to recogonize the driver who had been a fellow juror and lived in Baltimore. Small world.

Isn't it Baltimore or Greenbelt?

Isn't it Baltimore or Greenbelt?

Greenbelt is the US District Court, 4th Circuit, Bankruptcy Court. Baltimore is the US District Court, 4th Circuit, for federal matters.

I believe, occasionally, Greenbelt will hear arguments but I don't think they hold trials there. That is all done at the courthouse in Baltimore on Lombard Street.

I got a letter to serve locally from March 2008 to March 2009. How can one work a job never knowing if they are going to be there day to day?

I served last year, I think. Then I got another notice to start all over again, but since I had served on a trial in the previous 3 years, I was excused.

Jaybeez - Generally, you show up for the juror instructions day, then you call to see if your juror # is required to show up. It's kind of a pain. Luckily, I work near the Courthouse, so it wasn't much of a problem for me.

I have already been excused for reasons you know.

My husband received a questionaire from Greenbelt for jury duty. I believe the trial for the arsonists that burned the new homes in Indian Head went to trial in Greenbelt also.

I dread being called to federal duty and having to hear a patent case....I've seen people in the jury box fall asleep during a patent trial!!!

I am just scared I won't be excused.
I want to experience something like this.
But, I have two small children and am a SAHM.
We are on one income and I can't see having the expenses.
But I do want to experience something like this...

You can probably get excused by telling them that. The thing that sucks is that the people that work can't get excused, so we end up having to serve and then doing working our butts off at work to catch up on work.

I have never been asked to serve for jury duty.

I guess they don't ask the sane people.

You are the 5th person I know that have received that, outside the forums. They must be hitting St. Mary's County hard.
