Feral cats lost their food source

I think the feral colony that lives behind the McKay's in WW has lost their food source (McKay's dumpster diving) now that McKay's has closed. I've seen them crossing WW Blvd to the apartments in search of food. One of them got wacked by a car the other day. Poor guys.

Maybe you can send an e-mail to Alley Cat Allies and alert them to this. IDK what else to do. I have my own colony and live too far away from there to be able to offer any help. there are several organizations in SOMD that may be able to help as well but I don't have information on hand.

Anybody else able to offer any help?

After reading this, I put feelers out to see if anyone had ever trapped, spayed/neutered this colony. I remember seeing a lot of cats behind Wildewood center years ago when I rented space in a gift shop there.
I have contacted a rescue group and have offered to provide food for the kitties as long as someone is willing to feed them daily.

If another source of help is not found, we could provide some TNR assistance during the week between Christmas and New Years if we can get donations to cover the spay/neuter/Rabies vac. fees. We also have limited space for heated recuperation time, so could only probably handle 2 cats at a time (males need 1-2 days minimum recuperation time, and females between 2-4 days depending on their age/health). If possible I like to hold the females for 7-10 days due to their bare bellies needing hair regrowth during the Winter months.

Someone here may have a connection to another rescue group who may be able to do the spay/neuter/Rabies lower cost or free?

feral (fîrl, fr-)
Existing in a wild or untamed state, either naturally or having returned to such a state from domestication

Why do you think you need to feed a wild animal, especially an invasive species? Their population will stabilize in accordance with their food source

Because the cats did not ask to be here and were brought here by humans so humans should finish what they started.

That's great! I've been thinking about them and hoping someone was able to step up and help out. THANKS!

Someone else had reported them and asked for help with the Feral Cat Rescue group. To date, I have heard nothing. I did offer food and hoped they were willing to trap the colony and have them vet checked/ spayed/neutered.

Squirrels, rabbits and birds didn't ask for the cats to be there either...

This is a real question:

Why?

Nobody wants those cats and there are a million more where they came from. Why not have them all put down?

Seriously.

If it was alright for us to decide to kill off critters to suit ourselves, when does the killing stop?

I love cats, but here I agree with you.

I'd rather a cat be put down painlessly than get hit by a car and possibly suffer for hours or days before dying.

I agree with you as I have seen close up how ferals suffer from lack of medical care, and have been sad to find one dead in the road . Problem is most people would not donate money to an organization that traps feral cats to kill them.

The comparison isn't fair. Someone who didn't like dogs may kill your dog? I believe there are laws against killing most animals but few if any for killing insects.

Why would someone kill my dog? Or my cats, for that matter. They belong to me, have a home, and are well cared for. They are not pests or nuisance animals.

And how is the comparison not fair? You are the one who asked, when does the killing stop?
