"NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (AP) -- Five fifth-grade students face criminal charges after authorities said four of them had sex in front of other students in an unsupervised classroom and kept a classmate posted as a lookout for teachers."

Not to excuse what these kids did but I can't help wondering why they were inadvertently left unattended during the school day. Again, this doesn't excuse what they did.

Based on the national news report last evening about New Orleans' murder record since it became Chocolatetown, they should be thankful the kids weren't shooting each other!

Thiers no reason to bring criminal charges against these kids. this is something that their parent need to take care of. But then again we need somebody to blame for are own actions :coffee:

I agree.

Dumb question - I thought kids were physicaly incapable of intercourse before puberty. But I have read of a trend where many girls are entering puberty sooner. Two causes have been suggested - the natural estrogens in hair care products, and the lack of a father figure which seems to have a biological impact as well as a psychological impact.

Girls can have sex as soon as they are born....nobody said they were capable of gettng pregnant (which is post-puberty)

This is what bothers me....

If the Kids were old enough to engage in an adult act, then they should be treated like adults.

Tell us their names, let them be humiliated in public, as well as thier parents.


Sadly enough, the teacher who left, and the child lookout will get in more trouble than the children having sex

Me neither. But unfortunately, a huge percentage of teen mothers were impregnated by older men, not by other teens.

In 5th grade, you should be roughly 10 going on 11. I imagine many of these students have not been honor roll, and may have been held back, perhaps. And, if they (the boys) start to understand their nocturnal emissions and get a grip on what to do with it... who knows? Plus, (I haven't read the article) but, the header reads "sex"... Actual sex? Oral sex?

It's disturbing and unacceptable.

Two 11-year-old girls, a 12-year-old boy and a 13-year old boy were charged with obscenity and an 11-year-old boy, the alleged lookout, was charged with being an accessory.

Bold enough to what? That fact that even know how to do it should be alarming enough. When I was in 5th grade you'd be challenging my gross factor if you were to talk to me about sex. My closest idea of sex with a girl was to punch her in the stomach to let her know I liked her then go laugh about with my friends, then go play kickball.

Does anyone really believe they knew they were committing a crime? How about their Miranda rights; does anyone believe they understood their Miranda rights? Why not just expel them from school, send them home to mom and dad (or whatever equivalent) and let them deal with it. No wait, I forgot, parents aren’t responsible for what their kids do. Forget it, put them in the slammer. :sarcasm:
