They claimed that corporation profits were high enough that they could absorb a minimum wage hike.

Corporate profits *are* high enough that they could absorb paying their workers more. But they're not going to do that, they're going to raise prices to cover it. Those mansions and yachts aren't gonna buy themselves, you know....

I'm generally not in favor of limiting how much money people can make, but nobody needs 10 billion dollars to live on. One of the few times I agreed with Obama was when he said, "At some point you've made enough money." After that it's just greed and some psychological illness that keeps you hoarding it. (Of course, Obama didn't mean that and nobody loved to amass cash more than he did, but that's beside the point.)

Trickle down economics works, but the fat cats have to cooperate and actually trickle down. It galls me to see these turds whining on TV that they should be forced by the government to pay their "fair share" of taxes when they could certainly pay voluntarily, and they don't even pay their workers a living wage. They're just greedy aholes with a mental illness. Not to mention they'll simply hide their money from Uncle Sam to avoid paying anyway.

I find myself becoming more and more anti-establishment as I get older.

How much is “enough money”?

Missus and I decided to antiquing today and had an excellent lunch at the newish Mex place in Port Royal. 38 bucks with drinks and a 25% tip. There are still deals out there.

I never think of going up that way, even though it's only a bit further from most of Southern Maryland than Waldorf.

There is a Royal Farms under construction directly on the opposite side of 17 from Hornes. Hornes won't be around long after that opens, I predict. Another iconic business gone.

I’m guessing more than 1 billion since that’s Trump’s net worth.

And before the peanut gallery replies “they are having a conversation with themselves!!”, I’m not Hemi Hauler, nor those other profiles that were posted about. The fact you think people have time to maintain multiple profile simultaneously is just a tell, like I pointed out when Gillian said I was writing to them when I was actually writing to Kyle.

Each of those profiles have thousands of posts, talk about mental illness.

I think Hornes will be okay. It's WAY more than a gas station/cstore. I mean, sure, Royal Farms has the best fried chickie second only to Chaptico Market, but you stop at Hornes for a sit-down meal and to shop.

On another note, RF sucks because that's some predatory sh*t moving in right across from a Mom & Pop to try and put them out of business. Just because of that I'm unlikely to ever patronize a Royal Farms again. Whenever a soulless corporation does sh*t like that I boycott them on principle.

Unfortunately...the last couple time we ate at Hornes it was quite underwhelming. That's why we opted to try the new little Mex restaurant next to the large antique shop. It was pretty good!

I'm with ya on the predatory behavior...watching Dollar General destroy the remaining "Mom & Pop" stores throughout rural Va has not been enjoyable either.

We had that issue at there also. Which I hate, because they are one of the few, true, original diners left

They call me ... Sarcasmo
I went to Habit burger in the 'Dorf on Thursday and their portion to price ratio makes 5 guys pricing look like the blue plate specials at your local cracker barrel.

1/4# bacon cheeseburger, subpar fries and a fountain drink with no ice, $15.78 and had the audacity to give me the option of leaving a tip.

Hornes needs a good scrub down and remodel. The last couple times I've stopped there has only been for fuel and maybe a bottle of water.

But in a conversation I just had in the last couple of days with a customer, we both agreed that local, state, and federal governments have made it difficult for small business mom & pop owners to start or grow their businesses because of the regulations and red tape involved. No government likes small business owners, SMC included.

Wenchy and I used to stop at the Mex place for lunch when we'd make a cigarette run. YUM!

The one right there in Port Royal?..."El Ranchero"? I love the "creativity" (not) that goes in to the names of most Mex restaurants...LOL

No, it wasn't that far down. I had a scrambled mental picture. The one we used to go to was in King George.
