Better yet, how many "battles" were there. As far as large scale operations involving groups of troops with logistcal support etc. etc. sure we haven't lost. Small skirmishes with insurgents are not considered battles.

Ok, which skirmishes have we lost?

This crap reminds me of Tet. If we win the battle, or skirmish, but any of our troops are hit, the press makes it sound like we got our butts whooped.

Not only have we won anything that could be considered a battle, but the body counts are so lopsided that it is almost unfair.

Well I was about to get to that. Quite frankly, the idea of being at war for 3 and a half years and losing a mere 2700 men, while tragic, is nothing short of astonishing. We've had wars where that many men died in *hours*.

You can win battles or skirmishes or brawls or name-callings or whatever and emerge a little worse than when you began - hell, you can win and lose more guys than they do - but we're beating the ever living crap out of these guys.

Good comparison, too. They just mentioned Tet on TV this past week as being the turning point for American support for the war - a big, massive enemy campaign that ended in resounding, crushing DEFEAT for the Viet Cong - but somehow it translated into defeat for Americans in our press.

What did we lose on Normandy? 29000 Americans plus Brits, Canadians, and others. If CNN, Bustem', and AndyMarquisLIVE had been running things, we would have tucked our tail between our legs and quit WWII.

Um, excuse me? Don't lump me in that group. If I had been running things, there would be no one there to create an insurgency.

Beats the hell outta me. I'm just an E-6 so I'm not privy to all that info. Probably none. I, unlike the media, am not concerned with the day to day death toll, or how many bombs have exploded this month. I was mearly pointing out that they say we lost battles but really there haven't been many "battles" and to my knowledge we haven't lost any. Skirmishes I don't know about, but the media will twist an engagement consisting to 2 soldiers into a multi-national large scale operation and say we lost. :ohwell:

If we had to go into war with Iraq, I would've made sure we properly fought the war. We completely skipped over insurgent hotbeds to avoid casulties.

Well, we'll be sure to see you're properly consulted the next war they wage - I'm sure the Pentagon could learn a lot from your expertise.

Hey Colonel Armchair Commander, what casualties did we avoid? And specifically what "proper" thing would you have done? And you still haven't answered the question of which battles have we lost.

I usually oppose a mandatory draft until I am exposed to people like you. It would be great to see you as an 18 YO in uniform calling for more troops in Iraq, knowing YOU are the next to go. Of course, that's assuming you could qualify to serve our country.

Of course you do realize that if you really wanted to make a difference, you could be in uniform before you are 19, and be in country by the time you are 20. Do you have what it takes, or are you just going to talk?

Why did that line make me think of the scene in Caddyshack where Lacey asks Ty if he was in Vietnam and he says "Nope...(rubs leg)...gay." :lmao:

You realize that I have family in Iraq and everytime I hear of more dead soldiers fighting for another country's freedom whiler that was sacrifices this country, it just makes me sick. This is not our war, plain and simple.

I have family in Iraq too. Do you ever hear from your family in Iraq? I get a weekly diary from mine.

By the way, here's a portion from two weeks ago that struck me as interesting:
I saw an interview with President Karzai of
Afghanistan today and he was saying how the U.S
liberated his country and his people. He expressed
sincere gratitude and I thought to myself, "Wow, I
can't believe they actually played this on the news."
Then I saw it was on the Pentagon Channel. I hope it
made CNN and FOX News, but I wouldn't be surprised if
it didn't.

I send him mail but sometimes he gets it and sometimes he don't. I send him some money also from time to time. He hates it in Iraq though.

Does he hate it in Iraq or does he hate what he's doing in Iraq? Big difference. My BIL hates Iraq, but believes in what he's doing.
