Polaris introducing flat-proof "airless" tires | Fox News

For years, pneumatic tires -- the kind you fill with air -- have been a burr in the side of the ATV industry. Even on short excursions over rocky terrain a popped tire is not unexpected, and they often occur far from home.

Now, off-road vehicle specialist Polaris plans to debut a consumer version of an “airless” Non-Pneumatic Tire (NPT) by early next year.

I've seen this before. My thought is: What happens when you get mud, snow or stone inside those holes? Going to throw the whole tire out of balance and it won't be easy to clean.

Gold spinners would prevent that.

My ASSUMPTION is that this picture is like a cutaway just to show you the engineering and how it works..

I would ASSUME (again) that there would be some kind of sidewall, and wouldn't look much different than current tires.

Maybe, but I haven't seen any pictures of a whole tire, only pictures like Misfit posted.

But then again, I haven't gone looking for any.

from the article;
Polaris says the open design means dirt, tree branches, and gravel will shift and fall out as you ride, rather than getting stuck inside.
