I am also allergic to most flea stuff that you put on the dog. I put it on her and then have to wash my hands like 8 times to get any residue off me which is no biggy because i would rather bruno not have fleas.

We use brewer's yeast and garlic. We don't use any other flea or tick medication. It works great, he's almost 4 and never had fleas, a few ticks crawling on him, but that's about it. The brewer's yeast and garlic makes their skin taste awful for the fleas and ticks and they don't stay around. I spoke with the vet and she said it was a good alternative to other flea medications. But if we had more than the 2 dogs, we should look into using the other vet recommended medications.

So if your dog is getting fleas from other dogs brought into the store then that probably means the store has fleas running through it too.

We have 2 dogs and were thinking of doing the Frontline, it looks like buying a 12 month supply is the cheapest overall. I was thinking of splitting the years worth between them so we'd actually end up buying a 12 month supply every 6 months. Where do you who use it get it from? Vet? Online? ????? TIA.

I get my frontline from the vet as I have them weigh bruno. If your dogs aren't full grown yet you might have to the dogs to the vet a few times to have them weighed til they are done putting on weight so you buy the right dose. Bruno is in the 50 to 100lb flea meds she weighs 87.5. Also fleas are already out hope you have something on them now to keep the problem from getting too bad. Also you are going to need heartworm pills too for the dogs. I can't remember the name of the one bruno is on.

Our one dog is 5 (85 lbs) and the other will be 2 (74 lbs). They are on a cheaper one from the store and I thought Frontline would be better. I'm definitely doing the heartworm preventative. Thanks for the info.

I don't blame you there,. 2 dogs is enough, I couldn't imagine having 4.

Just a FYI........heartworm meds bought from the vet have a guarentee. If you buy them online or out of a magazine they don't. If you but your meds from the vet and the animal gets heartworms, assuming you give it every month, the vet will treat it at no cost.

Thanks. That would never have crossed my mind.

My vet will price match. If I bring in a a print out of the item/price from an online store they match it. Maybe you vet will too.

I get my from Dr. Foster and Smith (on-line)
They have free shipping on meds.

Friendly Pharmacy in Lusby carries both heartworm meds and frontline Plus. I think they less expensive than most vet's. However, people have told me one local vet wants to charge you $5 to write a prescription...

You can also buy a flea light trap.I bought mine at Wood burns in Solomons last year. You plug it into any outlet and it has a light that attracts the fleas and they get stuck to the sticky thing when they jump on it.Sorry I can't remember the exact name of the thing. I tried the light with soapy water but had no luck with it.

That's :bs: vets can't charge you to write a script... They just r greedy and want you to buy what they have... And its over priced! I know some like that!

Dawn, I like your prayer. LOL

Anyway my vet (Three Notch) USE TO match the price but they stopped doing that a few years ago. I guess it was a pain in the azz for them. Oh well, that's why I don't by my Frontline and Interceptor thru them.

Yes, the pharmicist at Friendly told me it was illegal for them to charge. Several people have come in and told me (a couple also admitted they just bought it from the vet rather than pay the $5 per script  )

how the heck does a dog get fleas being on frontline and giving the dose when its time to do so. I actually did her flea treatment a week before it was due. I think I am going to treat her again next week just to keep on top of it.

the only way i think she got the fleas is one of locals who brings his dog in must have them. As bruno is treated before she is due i don't let her miss a dose or any of that.

I heard from my vet (My mom also heard the same thing from her vet in NC) that Frontline is no longer working well on fleas, and is being pulled from the market. I finally bit the bullet and spent the money on Advantix and overnight...no more fleas!!!!!
