I heard from my vet (My mom also heard the same thing from her vet in NC) that Frontline is no longer working well on fleas, and is being pulled from the market. I finally bit the bullet and spent the money on Advantix and overnight...no more fleas!!!!!

I stopped by the vet the other day to pick up some Front Line, the girl at the front desk told me they stopped carrying it since it is now considered over the counter and most pet stores here carry it. Went over to the little pet store a couple of blocks away and they have it and only sell it by the single tube. I noticed it didn't work as well as it did last year. I'm glad I only got a single tube because next time I'm getting Advantix. I didn't think to check the expiration date, but after reading this, that doesn't sound like it was the problem.

DO NOT USE ON CATS.
Due to their unique physiology and inability to metabolize certain compounds, K9 Advantix must not be used on cats.
......... But since I work at the vet and I see what happens when cats clean the dog that had it applied and then it has a reaction... But if you still don't want to take my word for it please look it up by typing in K-9 advantix. .. Its made by Bayer.

I wouldn't use it on the cats, but should I not use it on the dog if I have cats?

I'm sure YOU wouldn't use it on a cat..... I copied that from the website... It is on the box and on the package

They recommend not using it if cats are in the house and will be around the dog because of cross contamination... We have had several cases of where the cat comes in contact with the dog and then has the reaction.... But that's a risk you guys want to take that's fine. :huggy:

So "Advantage" and "Advantix" are both flea products but one cannot/should not be used on cats? Scarey that their names are so similar...

Took my dog to the vet today because even though I don't see any fleas on him he is still scratching. They said he's got allergies, not fleas. From his scratching he has caused a minor infection in one area and they gave him some meds for the infection and itching. The vet also told me about a pill called Comfortis, it's for fleas and they have it for cats and dogs. He said it's better than Frontline because it works right away, lasts a month and it's $15 a pill which is cheaper than Frontline. Doggy goes back to the vet in two weeks which will be about the time for another flea treatment, so I think I may try the pill. Has anyone else tried it, does it work as well as they say it does?

Yes ICIT is right it made bruno really ill. she puked and puked and puked then the whole body started shaking and she was still puking it took her about 20min of puking off and on to get it all out of her system. I thought I was going to have to take her to the emergency vet that is how bad it was. I will never ever give bruno comfrontis again even if the vet said oh its just a one time a month pill. well i am not going to chance giving it to my baby ever again. My vet called the company and reported it as she has been the first dog my vets office has ever had that got really ill off of it.

Advantage is fine for cats, just not Advantix. I use Advantage and love it, but it only controls fleas, not ticks.
