Flea & Tick. What works best around here?

K9 Advantix actually repels ticks. Before switching from Frontline to K9 Advantix, our mini-schnauzers would bring ticks in by the dozen hanging on their fur. Frontline would kill the biting ticks but do nothing to stop the live ones from hitching a ride. After switching, we find very few ticks hitching a ride. We are surrounded by woods and fields so this is a very important feature for us.

are you using the Advantix or Advantix II?

 I really want to know how the AII is working!

The ticks we are finding are attached. One was of decent size, so I'm guessing it had been attached for some time. Another I found on the bathroom floor where he likes to lay, engorged as can be.

Advantix... and if you are finding engorged ticks after treating with AII... no way is it working on ticks. They should die at first bite.

:yay:... true because the second ingredient in Advantix is the best for ticks! (i also use horse spray and spray thier legs and belly if we are going out in tall grass or the woods... :yay: helps repell the even more and helps with chiggers also)

Ticks are better than briars......bow up...:)....and hate is such a terrible word.

:howdy:

I would pick drudging through briars any day than getting a tick on me. That is how much I STRONGLY DISLIKE ticks. I normally never use the word "hate", because you shouldn't hate anything. But, the feeling I have towards a tick... no other word could describe.

We have both an indoor and outdoor dog and cat. I've had three ticks embedded in my head over the weekend. I am grossed out.

Last week I had one underneath the wristwatch I always wear.

They are bringing them inside (obviously) We use Frontline Plus.

Repelling keeps them off the animals and they then want the humans.

:jameo:

I need a treatment to keep them off me.

So, after reading all this, what is the best?...we used Vectra also and just pulled a tick off one of my dogs....very small tick, hadn't been there long.

I thinks its hard to say.. LOL

I have not had good results with Frontline... but my dogs are put out in the woods and tall grasses more so than others. So I did find more ticks than normal... and had major issues with chiggers

I had good results with Advantix but felt that its tick coverage didnt last the 30days... but they were always dead fast when it was put on... but closer to the end.. not so much.

... now Im shocked Im even gonna admit this.. but I have good coverage from Bio Spot.... now with that said... Bio Spots Main Ingredient is the second ingredient in Advantix (and most effective on ticks) and the Second ingred. is also the second ingred. in Frontline Plus. Permethrin (45%), (S)-Methoprene (3%), also do not apply right after giving the dog a bath! you must wait at least 2-3 days to put any flea/tick meds on... these products are absorbed thru the follicles and you need them to be dry.

but with all Permethrin products.. you need to keep it away from cats!

I also use a Permethrin spray when they are going out in the woods or tall grass to repel and give added coverage!

Fair enough. Is there any harm in switching products regularly? Like now, I use Frontline (Not sure if is the plus or not). Say I switch over to advantix, don't like the results, and switch back to frontline. Will the dogs suffer or is it just like waking up in the morning and taking Tylenol, and then taking Advil before bed?<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

as long as you dont do it in the same month... or you get mixed up and give the dog tylenol or advil.. and you take the Frontline or Advantix :cds:

it may get $$ for ya like that.. but you will know what works and what doesnt

Thats good to know...our dogs brought ticks in the house last year. Never found one attached but rode in on them. I will be getting some K9 Advantix Wed when I take my dog to the vet.

Thats how them b*tch's R
What's the difference between the advantix, frontline, etc and the bio spot and others like that? Other than the latter being less expensive.

Bleh- Just found another engorged tick on the bathroom floor where he likes to lay. This is horrible! After reading some other forums I think we will try preventic tic collar in combo with the Advantix II. I haven't seen anything that warns against using both together...if anyone knows differently, lemme know!

Went home and conveyed to the wife my conversations in this thread and we decided on the same thing; going to switch from Frontline to Advantix. We ended up pulling a tick off the Great Dane's ear last night that was engorged in blood. :frown:

Bought and put the K9 Advantix II on the Rotty tonight. Will wait for the Boxer cause he got a bath tonight and the word on the street was wait 72 hours afterwards to put it on him. Hopefully this cures all the bug issues!!
