Flea & Tick. What works best around here?

What to use for cats? Main concern is fleas. Both are inside cats, thus ticks are not as common. 1 has extremely long hair.

I thinks its hard to say.. LOL

I have not had good results with Frontline... but my dogs are put out in the woods and tall grasses more so than others. So I did find more ticks than normal... and had major issues with chiggers

I had good results with Advantix but felt that its tick coverage didnt last the 30days... but they were always dead fast when it was put on... but closer to the end.. not so much.

... now Im shocked Im even gonna admit this.. but I have good coverage from Bio Spot.... now with that said... Bio Spots Main Ingredient is the second ingredient in Advantix (and most effective on ticks) and the Second ingred. is also the second ingred. in Frontline Plus. Permethrin (45%), (S)-Methoprene (3%), also do not apply right after giving the dog a bath! you must wait at least 2-3 days to put any flea/tick meds on... these products are absorbed thru the follicles and you need them to be dry.

but with all Permethrin products.. you need to keep it away from cats!

I also use a Permethrin spray when they are going out in the woods or tall grass to repel and give added coverage!

ICit, I have another question on these products. What's your feeling on purchasing these products on-line through sites like PetMeds and such. I was at my vet today and their recommending the Vectra. But I can get a 12 pack of the K9 Advantix II for a lot less than the Vectra from my vet. I mentioned this to the techs and they have no problems with us looking at it from a cost thing. I would like your opinion.

ICit will post soon, and she is very wise in these subjects (much more than I).

But, my input is online (in my own experience) has always had the cheaper prices. I bought my last round of Advantix from PetCo and it was 40 dollars more expensive then it would have been if I had gone through petmeds.com.

The only worry I now have is the techs said is they sometime wonder where the products come from. That's why they won't give their prescriptions to online sites. Do you need this from your vet for Advantix from Petmeds.com?

I use 1800petmeds.com. I've found it's the cheapest. Google search for coupon codes too, and you'll save even more!

Thanks. Have you ever had any problems with them?

No. I have ticks and the fur babies don't.

They ship quickly.

There are other threads on this topic. Use the search button and pull them up.

Concerns are expiration dates, etc. I do believe there is a cheaper site.

Do me a favor and research for me. I need to get to bed. I think I have lyme.

You have to be very careful when purchasing pet medications online. There are many "knock off" meds which can have bad side effects or just don't work.

Wenchy, if you've had that many tick bites you need to be on doxycycline.

I do trust PetMeds... (I think there is a "certification" or something they need of some sort ... I found a price cheaper somewhere else but that place was NOT ON the certification list they had)

so just be careful! but I do order from Petmeds and from another site and have had no issues :yay:

:yeahthat: Wenchy... please check with your Dr... and see what they say.. they may place you on a month of Doxy as a prevent. and run blood to check your titer to Lyme, and also have them check for Rocky Mnt. as well to see if you were exposed. (they will have to do bloodwork later)

You know, Dr. Darnell told me that PetMeds was the worst and to never order from them. She told me who to use but I can't remember.

....

now I have had someone order from somewhere and the meds came in with crazy jap writing on it :jet: now I will say that may not be made here

I have never had an issue before (but most vets dont like them because they do lose money from them.. now most vets will match the prices from on line sellers to try to keep the profits in house.)

I know a vet in county that has a HIGH mark up on their products  like almost 20-30 bucks profit on each pack they sell!!!! :cds: :coffee:

Has anyone heard of these Shoo!Tags? Petco carries them... I would love to believe they worked, but am trying to NOT get my hopes up. Ticks are really bad this year and I'm trying to find something to help.
