Nice shiny new vehicles don't have wax and if the airborne chemicals are kept off the clearcoat, the shine will last indefinitely. There is a school of thought that wax is one of the worst things you can do to a finish and only a polish should be used if you must have max shine.

Of course a detailer will prefer a product like Zaino ($$$$)but there is nothing wrong with the budget minded driver that can go with a little less shine and a weekly scrub with Dawn.

I don't know if Robert is still at Aldrich but he is a pretty good painter. His helpers that use a claw hammer to remove emblems are not so hot.

BTW 3M makes the best stuff.

you want wax on your vehicle to protect your clear coat. using dawn will strip the wax off and nothing is left to protect your clear coat.

I believe you will find some some professionals with a lot more experience than either of us will contend that wax can be harmful. It will act as a heat blanket and will not stop chemicals from attacking the paint. Tree sap and tar yes, bird crap and calcium, not a chance. Dark colors are especially vulnerable. You want extra shine, use a polish.
