I drop my truck off at Bortnick Ford tomorrow am. Wonder what kind of rental I'll wind up with...and how much lumber it'll hold. I got big plans for the weekend.

How did Bortnick Ford work out for you?
My DH's Ford's power driver seat won't move forward (or back), which means short people like me can't drive it. I figure it's an electrical issue and probably easiest to bring it to a dealership. I want to call around tomorrow to make an appointment but don't know who to call.

Has he checked all of the fuses?

Fuses... hmm... No, we haven't tried that. I assumed it was a problem in the wire (like a crimp) because it has happened on again & off again. It's always the same thing--when the seat's back (when he drives) I can't move the seat forward.

Something like that happened with my Miata once so I'm thinking it's the same cause. When the seat was all the way back, the radio would work but if the seat was forward, the radio would not work. It turned out to be that a frayed wire was running across the slides under the seat.

I looked under the seat of the Ford and was overcome with the vast number of wires. I had no idea of the wiring they've put in and figured a dealership would know the wiring best.

Do you think it might be a fuse though? I guess it wouldn't hurt for me to check those...

I have no complaints about L'town Ford. In fact, I had a very nice service department experience the one time I have had to take my car in.

I would check the fuses before I'd take the time to schedule an appointment, drive to a dealer, shuffle around to get where you're going that day, and pick it up, only to find out it was a fuse!

Seriously, easy enough to check or even switch with a good fuse.

Your fuse box contains spare fuses that you can use when you find the one for the power seat.

Wasn't the fuses. Good idea though. I would have felt guilty if I had brought it in to a mechanic without trying SOMETHING. Now I can say I tried something.

Took the Ford in to be fixed this morning. Didn't got to the La Plata dealership based on this thread. Took it to Waldorf. Expected to get it back today with a bill of $90 and them saying they fixed a wire. Just got a call from the dealership. They said they need to replace the powerseat motor & tracks. $933! I told them not to do anything while I try to hunt down my DH. I wonder if it's against the law to drive while sitting in a child seat

Or if you really want to resolve the problem, take it to a Chevy dealer and trade it in.

So I went by the dealership last night. They still have my car b/c I told them not to do anything until I got a hold of my DH and figured out what to do. Just for kicks, I tried to move the seat and it worked! I put it in the middle - not all the way forward or back so that maybe my DH and I could both drive with it there and we could leave it in that position. Here's my question - if the motor were burned out, like they said it was, wouldn't the seat not move at all, rather than move intermittently?

I was able to find a really good troubleshooting guide for this problem in Camaros:
http://cv6.fakeleg.com/techfiles/seats-power.pdf
They say to look for terminal connections, switches, etc. before getting to the motor. I don't know that the Ford dealership did all this before telling me the motor & tracks need to be replaced. And in my googling, I never see anything that says tracks need to be replaced. I fear the dealership's recommendation to change the motor and tracks for $933 may be grossly inflated.

But one thing I did notice with all this looking around - it's a problem fairly common in Fords & Chevys. I have not seen discussions about it for any other car. And our Ford is only two years old, although we've driven it so much the mileage puts it over the warranty period :ohwell:

I took my car in for some some minor work (door adjustments, windshield washer jets, transmission check) all warranty work. This car was my baby. It was practically brand new. Well when I picked it up they had put a huge scratch in the windshield cowl near the washer jet. Bodyshop dust was ALL over the car inside and out and all over the leather. Not to mention I gave the car to them spotless. So they had one of their prize detailers :duh: come out and start wipeing my car down with spray 9 and a greasy rag. I put a stop to that real quick. What broke the camels back is when I went to leave my radio was on some stupid a$$ station and cranked all the way up. I'm sorry YOU DON'T TOUCH THE STEREO unless it is in for stereo work. They will never touch a vehicle of mine again, and Ford customer service got a huge complaint from me about this experience.

i do not recommend takingyour car to aldridge or buying a car from them. i will probably get bashed for this because i am just a teen and hell what do i know right? well take it from someone who was a car detailer there, and from someone who drives a show truck.

1. all the cars on the lot are washed with dish detergent(strips the wax off of your nice new shiney vehicle you just spent 25+ g's on. and now in 3 years you must go and spend 4 g on a new paint job cause it was not taken care of.

2. body shop: massiva ammounts of over spray, i can paint better outside. the masking paper they use it sais on it "this side facing down, do not use water to stick to car" well they must have graduated from a crayon box or something cause hell they don't read.

the engine mechanics, no real problem witht them, havn't been around there work to have an opinion, the dealers there are nice and polite. but if i'm spending 25 + g's on a vehicle, i atleast want my paint to look good after 4 years of driving it
