I had an amazing collection of cookbooks that I inherited from my grandmother, who was a gifted chef and hostess (and Admiral's wife). Lost it all in the house fire.
I have about 30 running feet of shelf space filled with cookbooks.
In college, took night classes one school year with a chef from the Culinary Institute of America.
Chef and I decided at the end of the classes that while I was great cook, did not have the drive or ego to be a chef.

I've got one and as far as I know the only thing that's ever been made in it is cherry pudding.

Steamed cherry pudding
Mix together
1 egg beaten
1 1/2 sugar
ADD
2 T crisco
1 c buttermilk
ADD to wet ingredients
11/2-2 c flour
1 t baking powder
1 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
ADD
1 c sour cherries + some juice
if too moist add little flour
Steam 1 1/2 hrs - 2 hrs
