Smilin on a cloudy day
We had two possible homes fall through over the weekend. The first one was simple enough. They're older and thought an older dog would be better for them. The lady plans on visiting the shelter to rescue something more suitable. Most likely something older.:yay:

The second was a little more tragic. Although the lady didn't know about our foster yet, I knew she would take him as a companion to her boxer. Unfortunately her dog suffered a freak accident yesterday and had to be put down. I was just getting ready to send her pics of this guy when she called about hers. She had just lost her dogs companion over the holidays (another boxer) and now she's been devistated with this loss. I didn't have the heart to tell her about our foster. It's just to soon.

This guy (who's not named yet) is going to the vet tonight and if all's well should be available for adoption tomorrow. In all our years of rescue we've never had an animal be so pleasant right from the start. We're still baffled as to why the owners didn't want him back. His only real issue is separation anxiety. When ever he's alone (and realizes it) he starts to whine.

Aww, good luck w/ the search for a new family!

You can also check out this site, and they have info on Sep Anxiety and ways to combat it. Can We Help You Keep Your Pet?

This is from an email I received a while back...I don't know if this works, don't know if its true or just someone trying to get you to buy their CD..just FYI in case you're interested in researching further.

My dogs Missy and Duke, can sometimes be a bit overly playful while I'm at work. When I have come home in the past, one (or

both) of them have ripped the stuffing from their play animals, and gotten into other mischief around the house. A friend had picked up this new CD that's out, made just for pet separation anxiety. She said it calmed her dog significantly - plus, she said she really liked the instrumental music as well. It's called 'Mood Music for Dogs' (And Dog Lovers) 'Gone for a Walk'.

I was skeptical at first, but she was insistent about how well it worked, so after a few more weeks of 'after-work dog mania' I tried the CD, and now I'm a believer! It worked the very first day! When I came home, Missy was laying on her side in dream heaven, Duke was in his chair, the beautiful music was playing (piano, strings, harp and flute) and there was not one single disturbance in sight! I thought I was at the wrong house! The days have stretched into months since then, and my testimonial holds true about the difference it has made for my pets. I play the CD while I'm taking a bath or reading my magazines because the music is so relaxing in the background. So, my tip is, buy this CD! Plus, a CD player doesn't take as much electricity as a TV, and there's never loud commercials or static! I bought the CD online at cherylchristine.com but my friend bought hers at the Salty Dog T-Shirt Factory on Hilton Head Island, SC

That sounds like a great idea for any dogs while at home alone. I need to get it!

the last owners contacted me and I explain why he was picked up and where he went to. she said the kids were settig off fire crackers and the dog got scared and ran off....she then wanted him to have a bath before she picked him up. she never called Rita, so I got back in touch and she said the husband did not want the dog back because he would just ran away again.....so we could just find him a home....The sweet boy is better off!!

I had inquired about this recently to carry in my store...Glad to hear the testimonials that it works!!

The dalmation is going to his possible forever home this evening. If he gets along with their other animals he should be good to go. He gets along with everything here but their pets might have something to say about it.

Happy Valentines

Just an update...his Valentines home didn't work out but he was adopted today to a family in St. Mary's.:yay:
The lady who lost her boxers (post 42) played a big part in finding this guy a home.:yay::yay:

Got this e-mail today from his new family...

Hi guys. I know we called you right after we got the dog but I
just wanted to let you know again that we LOVE this dog!
He has not spent a moment alone since he got here. The boys take him
with them wherever they go. Everyone sleeps with their doors open and he
spends time with everyone during the night.
I can't thank you enough for allowing us to bring this loving pet into
our home.

:peace:

Can't ask for much more in the rescue world. He's gonna live better than most people I know. Definitely made our day.

Just got better for us. Vet just called with our new rescue. She's a granny beagle at least 12 years old. With the exception of some dental issues her exam checked out fine. Already spayed and heartworm negative which means no surgery:yay:. She'll live out her days here with us and the rest of the pack.

Great reward for your unselfish love. May she live a long, long time!
