I had a buddy that lived on the edge of the desert. There was a desert fox that would come around and get fed and watered. Pretty soon the fox would just come and sit outside with him in the evening. Not a pet exactly, just two creatures enjoying the silence and each others company. I told him it was probably a reincarnated person that missed other people and he told me to shut up.rack'm said:We had a pet red fox when I was a kid......he died when he was 6 years old of a kidney stone.![]()

I'll never forget the way the fox chattered when he wanted something, unexplainable........but it was like he was talking to you that he wanted what you were offering.....he loved dog treats.![]()

Anyway..I had the honor to help out this little pup today.
The finder spotted it playing with a plastic bag on the roadside..all by its self and thought it was a kitten.
Using a thick towel, the "kitten" got picked up and placed into a carrier.
It is obvious it is not a kitten but a gray fox pup.
Weighs all of a pound or 2.
Never pick up any species that carries rabies.
Call for help...rabies shots hurt!
OK..
Here are 3 photos of the litte guy inside the cat carrier....
He had a long day and was very tired.
Enjoy....![]()

I think its great that he has a chance at life now, something I wish I could say about everyone!

Nala is very cute! That first (and second!) cat in the pics I posted are of Willow. She's a little feral cat that was born outside my barn. It took me awhile to get them all trapped and spayed and neutered. I kept her and her brother Mack (the solid orange cat in the pics posted). They've turned out to be great pets! Of course they're really cautious of anyone they don't know but they're real sweet barn cats!pixiegirl said:Nala Girl...

I often see a couple of foxes late at night in the field not too far from my home. I'm sure they have a den close by, never see any pups though. Thanx for the pixs!

I can understand your concern about someone taking in a baby fox but rest assured Inkpen is very experienced with rehabilitating wildlife and dealing with "nuisance" wildlife. There is a fox in my neighborhood that has been showing an interest in some of the neighborhood cats (including mine). I had called animal control weeks ago and they wouldn't come out. Inkpen has been a great help in educating myself and the area and helping us find a solution for the problem hopefully without killing the fox. Now animal control has gotten involved after receiving numerous calls and they are working along with Inkpen.PrchJrkr said:Yes he is adorable, but will soon turn into a chicken, cat, and small dog killer.
It's always great to hear stories like that!pixiegirl said:Mine was a feral as well. I worked at an animal hospital when I was 19. A lady that worked with me trapped the mother and 5 kittens in an abandoned car behind her house. They were maybe 6 weeks old and the babies wouls hiss at us when we walked into the ward they were in. The mother was put down but all the babies were adopted out (I think staff took them all). Nala is 9 years old and you'd never know she was ever feral. She loves people, all people (minus very young obnoxious kids) but she sure hates my dog. I really babied her as a kitten as I wanted her to grow to be friendly and it's kept with her. I can pick her up and carry her anywhere. She puts her front two paws on my shoulder and just goes along for the ride!
