Gas Wars

Happy Camper!
Anyone else noticed the constant drop in prices around the California area since the new Wa-Wa opened this week? I filled up the other night at $1.63 at Sheetz and noticed last night it was down to $1.59:banana:

I filled up at Sheetz this morning because I was scared it will go up again. I talked to one of the clerks and she said it would probably drop another cent at Sheetz but probably raise up again after the first of the year.

Did anyone else notice the price diffrence from St. Mary's to Calvert? WaWa was $1.59 and faststop right across the bridge was $1.93. Silly

This has been discussed before. I believe it has to do with where the fuel get's shipped from. Ours come's from Richmond or Norfolk(something down there) and theirs get's shipped to Baltimore then distributed from there:Ithink:

Me too. I remember when gas was 55 cents in the early '70s. I don't remember too many gas wars after the Arab oil boycott ended, when gas prices first began skyrocketing.

My unofficial opinion is that is simple robbery.
Why is there such a big price difference between all of the Wawa's? Lex Park area is always waaay cheaper. All of Calvert is expensive except home fuel oil that St. Mary's has a special tax on.

BTW, is anyone having trouble with their gas Gage? Mine went berserk and it is being blamed on sulfur in the fuel. I only gas up at BJ's or Wawa.

I asked this question as well, as to why the prices were so different between Calvert and St. Mary's. The answer I got was because there are no Wa-Wa's or Sheetz in Calvert, because of the close relationship that the Gott Company has with Calvert County Government, so the chains have never been granted permits to build in Calvert, therefore, the Gott company can charge whatever they want as there is no True competition in gas prices.

Do you mean all gas chains or just Sheetz and Wawa? There are chain gas stations in Calvert, but few and far between, as far as I can tell, and they're usually co-located with a convenience store. I don't think Calvert has any Dash-Ins (which is a sister company to Southern Maryland Oil).

I beleive the information I was given was most gas chains that deal with "discount gas", have never been built, I have never really looked at all the gas stations in Calvert, but I only recall the ones run by Gott, or like you said one's associated with Convenience stores and they do not deal in "discount gas"....

A price difference is normal, but usually 10 - 15 cents a gallon. I NEVER buy gas on the other side of the bridge.. always fill up on my way to or form work.

1.89 for Super at Shell on Tuesday. THink Calvert County has a higher gas tax

My officemate could be good competition for you in your gas war. According to him they don't stink, but he's wrong.

Just don't hold that kind of "gas war" anywhere near the WaWa, or the whole place could be incinerated.
