I asked this question as well, as to why the prices were so different between Calvert and St. Mary's. The answer I got was because there are no Wa-Wa's or Sheetz in Calvert, because of the close relationship that the Gott Company has with Calvert County Government, so the chains have never been granted permits to build in Calvert, therefore, the Gott company can charge whatever they want as there is no True competition in gas prices.

Calvert's first discount gas station will be a WA-WA in Dunkirk.

if you will
One of my coworkers has a theory about the price differences for St. Mary's County vs. Charles and Calvert County. St. Mary's County doesn't have emissions inspections (yet), so the other two counties that do probably have a gov't requirement to sell oxygenated gasoline in the winter months to reduce emissions. That formulation probably costs more. But I still wonder why the gas still gets more expensive the further north in St. Mary's you go....

I think it's because Sheetz can charge a lower price than everyone else, and Wawa follows in lockstep to be competitive. Wawa's prices in northern St. Mary's are just a penny or two lower than its nearby competitors. I think Hewitt's used to buy its gas from Sheetz.

It's $2.19 in Fairfax, right across the street from where I work. :ohwell: I usually fill-up in Hughesville on my way out the door in the a.m.

Hughesville to Fairfax must be one hell of a drive.

Do you mean all gas chains or just Sheetz and Wawa? There are chain gas stations in Calvert, but few and far between, as far as I can tell, and they're usually co-located with a convenience store. I don't think Calvert has any Dash-Ins (which is a sister company to Southern Maryland Oil).

There is a Dash-in at Fox Run in Prince Frederick (Giant/Kmart strip mall).

It's right by Waldorf, on 301.

Well getting there takes a little over an hour because I leave at 4:30, but coming home with traffic maybe two or three hours
